Here is a web site that you can check out. http://www.cancercenter.com/landing-pages/lung-cancer-staging/?source=ysmnational&c=1103:11:1:3 Here is some information from that Web site. Lung Cancer Types & Stages If you’ve been recently diagnosed with lung cancer, chances are you have a number of questions about your particular type and stage of cancer. There are two primary types of lung cancer: Small cell and non-small cell lung cancer. Furthermore, lung cancer is broken down by stages that describe how far the cancer has spread. This staging process is important because it can help doctors determine the options available to treat your cancer. I am hoping that this does help you out.
2 :
persistent cough, coughing out blood, chest pain that does not go away, difficulty breathing, wheezing, hoarseness of voice, swelling of the face and neck, pain in the upper arms or shoulder, loss of appetite, unexplained weight loss, and unusual tiredness.

stage 4 lung cancer is a tumor different than cancer

stage 4 lung cancer is a tumor different than cancer?
My friends mom was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and she is being very vague with her about the information she is giving about the cancer. she told her that she had the fluid drained from her lungs and there was no cancer cells in the fluid, but she says they doctors are more worried about the "tumor" than that actual cancer, so my question is, are the "tumor" and the "cancer" two different things? can you use layman's terms please? im medically illiterate

Cancerous Tumour is a build up matter of cancerous cells. The Carcinogenesis evaluates great understanding of the formation of cancer. once the tumour was formed cancer cells seems to say as tumours until they spread (metathesis) by duplicating them self in other part of the organ. metathesis cancer or stage 4 cancer is a late stage and survival rate is low.
2 :
The tumor is the cancer. Stage 4 means it has spread to a distant site and is not curable.
3 :
Nah something is missed in the translation there. The tumor is the cancer.
4 :
Stage 4 is the worst prognosis, in other words terminal, and probably not too long to live. Her mom is probably in some shock/denial as well as trying to put on a happy face and not worry your friend. She may want to seek out a support group at her local hospital for family of cancer patients and go to that .That will help her cope with this horrible diagnosis. Just stay by your friend and her mom and provide all the support that you can. Best Wishes
5 :
As Denise DDS says, the words "cancer" and "tumor" mean the same thing in this case. People like to use the word "tumor" since it seems less scary than the word "cancer.' Cancer really means "malignant tumor(s)," but people often simply like to refer to it as tumor. If the diagnosis is correct, widespread stage IV lung malignancies are not considered curable. Only the small cell type of lung cancer responds well to chemotherapy for awhile. The majority of lung cancers are the non -small cell types which do not respond well to any of our many chemotherapy regimens. You friend's mom has the right to keep her medical information to herself. Her personal medical condition is no one's business except hers and who she wished to tell.

death

i think you have an infection, but it doesn't really sound like cancer. Even so, you need a doc, because the longer the infection continues, the more permanent damage can be done to your lungs.
3 :
very often the first symptom that presents itself is a dry irritating cough that will not go away, you sound as if you have catarrh and a sore throat, but if you are worried and you feel so horrible the pop along to the gp.

Can you get lung cancer after having smoked 4 cigarettes

Can you get lung cancer after having smoked 4 cigarettes?
I smoked 4 cigarettes in the past week and have noticed that ever since I have done that, i have felt mucus in my throat..its even worse when I try to sleep..why is this?

1 :
stop smoking
2 :
Yes.
3 :
umm... You can get it from smoking 1 cig. It has been proven
4 :
That's because smoking is bad for you and gross. You can get lung cancer without smoking any cigarettes. Don't smoke anymore see how that works for you.
5 :
You can get lung cancer by not smoking any cigarettes, cigarettes just up the chances
6 :
That's what happens when you do something your body doesn't like, especially if you are allergic to smoke (sounds like you might be) you don't have lung cancer...
7 :
To answer your initial question: You can get lung cancer without ever smoking even one cigarette. For the other question: I think you are getting a cold.
8 :
This is a sign that you must stop smoking , and even more if your throat hurts.
9 :
You can die from lung cancer even if you've never smoked a cigarette in your life.
10 :
You can get lung cancer from not smoking any cigarettes - EVER! Maybe since the weather is changing you're getting a fall cold, or some type of allergic reaction to something in the air. And because you did smoke those cigs you're relating the mucus to that! Probably has nothing to do with the cigarettes at all. Ü
11 :
Smoking causes mucus, if you don't smoke don't! I have smoked for about 15 years now and it's very hard to stop. I don't think any studies show how many cigs you need to smoke b/f you get lung cancer, I am thinking that 4 won't make that happen so don't worry the cancer doesn't form overnight.. Not like you didn't know that. Seriously though if you don't smoke don't.. take it from me..
12 :
The answer to your first question is yes. Current thought on cancer it is a cellular mutation and a single exposue is not likely to result in cancer it is possible. "The prevailing theory is that cancer comes about due to mutations in DNA. Mutations in your DNA are due to deletions of part of your genes (areas of your DNA that make your body’s proteins). Mutations come about if you’re exposed to radiation, certain chemicals, or can even occur due to your body’s own errors when making new DNA." The second question is likely unrelated to the smoking, you are probably at the beginning of a cold and it is unrelated to smoking. That said do NOT smoke it is the number one thing you can do to improve the length and quality of your life.
13 :
frist stop somking and yes you can get lung cancer.STOP!!!!!!!!!
14 :
Your lungs are not used to what you have done. You are litteraly inhaling smoke and that causes damage to your lungs.
15 :
No. It takes a lot more than four. The whole "cigarettes will kill you" thing is over-hyped. They'll give you cancer if you keep using them for a long time, but you would have to smoke a lot over a very long time. Yeah, everyone here saw the "Truth" Campaign commercial and now they think they're all experts.
16 :
your throat is reacting to what it went through for the past week. Don't worry, it will go away in time. Just stop smoking, you don't benefit anything from smoking, except cancer!
17 :
yes, it cancer can be caused by an infection, and smoking can make you venerable, and there was a test with one cigarette and the person got lung cancer, but you might have a cold or just fed up you throat so just stop, it is a dumb thing any ways.
18 :
you don't have to smoke at all to get lung cancer...breathing second hand smoke is just as bad for us as smoking is...so to answer your question, yes you can get cancer from just 4 cigarettes, whether you smoked them or someone else...cigarettes have too many additives these days to damage our bodies...the mucus isn't from the cigarettes...it's probably from what you eat...milk, ice cream, pudding, butter...any dairy will cause mucus...
19 :
Well cigg's aren't good for you to begin with. When you breathe, you put a little strain on your lungs, throat and heart. It hurts when you smoke because the smoke is getting into those parts of your body. To keep the mucus out of your throat, then don't smoke....There's no solution to it, so just don't do it!
20 :
Just stop the madness! Why risk it???? Yeah sure you are going to die someday but don't rush it!
21 :
yes you can get it. it is worse when you smoke anything like cigarettes and this is why: all of the crap in the cigatettes stays in your lungs. it clumps these "things" in your lungs that help push air in and out of your lungs. once you start smoking these stick together and have a harder time doing their job.
22 :
AN increase in mucus is probably not lung cancer, and the chance that it would be caused by only four cigarettes is so insignifigant that its barely worth mentioning, an increase in mucus could be something as simple as a cold, if your worried, though, have a doctor check you out.
23 :
I would think that pollution, is a greater cause of cancer, than nicotine. However it is not good for your general health, and causes cardiovascular constriction, and shortness of breath. I am a smoker, and can give you no rational reason for smoking, it is habit that serves no useful purpose, except satisfying the habit. The direct answer to your question is NO, four cigarettes, are not going to give you lung cancer.
24 :
u get closer with the killer (cancer) stop smoking...

my mom is terminally ill with lung cancer and in her final stages, Im having a hard time trying to cope?
I'm looking for some kind of reading material, books anything that can somewhat prepare me a little better, hospice is treating my mom three times a week. Im trying to deal/cope with my mom facing her final stages of life.

I am so sorry about your mum. Firstly stay positive, coz if you not, whats gona happen to your mum? Secondly go to your doctor and ask him/her what can you do, like what books can you read and so on. Go to your local library and look through books toy help you. Ask your friends. I am seriously sorry bout your mum and if you need help go to my profile and look for my e mail addy and email me
2 :
Sorry to hear that, try to be strong. I don't know about any reading material for such a situation. You could ask the doctors, they usually write stuff giving such advice.
3 :
Oh! god! im so very sorry to hear about your mum..this must be so hard for her...and you..i cannot imagine how your coping..may the sun shine down on you both at this sad time xxx
4 :
I am so, so sorry to hear that. Try the American Cancer Society they should have plenty of material for you to read about the subject.
5 :
Sorry to hear about your mom. I am a nurse working at a long term facility. I see this everyday. You said she is on hospice.. Take full advantage of this they are there for your mom and your whole family to help with the final stages of life. The Hospices nurse should be able to get you some literature to read if you are not there when they visit your mom, leave them a note, or you can make arrangements to be there when they are. I can't tell you that you'll ever be prepared to lose mom but just knowing that she is comfortable will make you feel much better. I know its hard to deal with but you'll get thru, keep strong for your family..God Bless..
6 :
My Mom died of lung cancer a few years ago. I also looked for reading material, but, nothing really helped. I was close to my Mom and it was/still is hard to get over her death. In the weeks after her passing, I would find myself picking up the phone to call her. I know it sounds cliche, but, time does heal. You never get over it, but, it does get a little easier. Just be there for her now and let her know how much you love her. Hug her often, hold her hand, pray with/for her, and comfort her. I know it doesn't seem like it right now, but, God will bring you thru this.
7 :
the cancer center where you would go for treatment usually has a great deal of books they loan out to family members as well as patients. call and ask. also i would think the hospice care in your area would have special people that can give you pamplets or related info. on the end of life stages, what to expect etc. hospice also has trained councelors you can talk to. just give them a call and ask for anything at all you need and they will be there......the hospice team in our area are all truly little angels. they can provide anything practically from a-z and integrate their program and see the family as also a patient of sorts. they can also direct you where else you may find the info. you are in need of. my thoughts and prayers are with you and yours!!!!

Should Native Americans be forced to pay healthcare bills for people suffering from lung cancer due to smoking

Should Native Americans be forced to pay healthcare bills for people suffering from lung cancer due to smoking?
It was the Natives who introduced tobacco to the white man.

sounds like a good idea, especially now that they make so much off casinos where people smoke like chimneys
2 :
Yes, if you are consistent with your logic.
3 :
They were just innocently trying to kill us to get us off their land. To bad for them that tobacco poisoning works so slow.
4 :
that's stupid, we didn't tell you to come here. besides who told you to inhale? even Clinton knew better. An old Indian chief sat in his hut on the reservation, smoking a ceremonial pipe and eyeing two US government officials sent to interview him. "Chief Two Eagles," asked one official, "you have observed the white man for 90 years. You've seen his wars and his material wealth. You've seen his progress, and the damage he's done." The chief nodded in agreement. The official continued, "Considering all these events, in your opinion, where did the white man go wrong?" The chief stared at the government officials for over a minute and then calmly replied, "When white man found the land, Indians were running it. No taxes, no debt, plenty buffalo, plenty beaver, women did all the work, medicine man free, Indian man spent all day hunting and fishing, all night having sex." Then the chief leaned back and smiled, "White man dumb enough to think he could improve system like that.
5 :
sure,,,,problem is the government has to give them the money to pay it.......
6 :
I like that idea
7 :
What tribe? Then who will the black men dying of lung cancer due to smoking sue, the white man? And which white man, the German, English, Finnish, etc.?
8 :
NO!!! I believe all people everywhere should be responsable for their own actions.
9 :
Wait!!!! I'm a native American and white! I was born in this country, served this country, paid taxes, and all the other good things that go along with that!! Not on drop of indian in me! If that's what your referring to? I have never went for this political correct crap, so call them what they are. Indians!! Or if you get down to it. They came to this country from Asia!!! They are no more native to America than Tokyo Rose! Even though they make millions if not billions each year of the evil white mans wampum, and can afford to pay it. I'm responsible for my health! WOW! Have you ever seen so many &@$#!*% out there!!
10 :
So if we follow that lil insane kind of thinking, WE the NDN's can sue you people for bringing refined sugar, flour and all the junk that has given us Diabetes. And all the diseases that plague this place because "pre-white man" we weren't sick with everything. How bout suing you for all the drugs that has came into this place since your "forefathers" came here. hmmmm and if you wanna get all technical about it, not every tribe used tobacco....and we sure the hell didn't have things handy like strychnine and crap like that to add to it. grow up and quit hatin.
11 :
They are now saying that alot of people are getting lung cancer and dont realize its from exspestos, the CDC is saying 1 out of 3 people have developed lung cancer from exspestos (airborne pathogen). I know for a fact there companies helping to get a settlement for anyone with lung cancer. My aunt had lung cancer and found out it was caused by a infestation in her house and won her case she was paid like 140 grand. They tried to settle out of court but she took 'em for everything.. anyway here is the company's site that is doing it http://www.lung-cancer-compensation.tk hope that helped:)
12 :
we aren't the ones that put cancer causing chemicals in the tobacco. and do you really want to open that can of worms where a race of people is held financially responsible for all the wrongs their race has done over the course of history? white people would be paying forever if that were the case.
13 :
really, hony? what about smallpox for just one example? what about systematic oppression over the last 300 years? but most importantly, WHAT ABOUT CHOCOLATE? they 'gave' us that, too. you assume that the indians gave the tobacco, but history shows that europeans were much more likely to simply take what they wanted.

Stage one lung cancer can be successfully treated with surgery and if he is lucky he will be cured. You do not need to worry about what genes are affected as this is irrelevant to his situation or prognosis and is only of concern to cancer researchers. http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/wyntk/lung/page8

i have no idea but im so sorry:(...ill pray for you.

Well the only thing left is to pray and keep your finger crossed. Life is like this whether we like it or not and I am afraid your father should be kept comfortable and his wishes fulfilled. May be a miracle will save him. Good luck and god bless you.
2 :
I am so very sorry to read your question - both for you and your father. The Doc should be able to tell you what his chances are. Enjoy what quality time u can with him. My best wishes to u both.
