I should be able to avoid lung cancer by quitting smoking right

I should be able to avoid lung cancer by quitting smoking right?
I smoked from 2005 to 2010 but I smoked on and off (swishers filled with weed). I never smoked everyday and I probably have about 300 Blunts of weed in my lungs over 4 years. But every website that I read says lungs regenerate within 5 years for young people and 10 years for heavy old smokers. Im turning 26 and quitting forever. What do you think?

You have no guarantee that you won't get lung cancer even if you have never smoked but you are certainly cutting down the risk and quite apart from the threat of cancer, smoking is associated with many other health conditions. Quit and good luck.
2 :
yes absolutely. Quit now and in 10 years your lungs will be healthy again. Thats a no-brainer...
3 :
You haven't quit yet? Smoking regular cigarettes, cigars, pipe, swishers, pot, etc. can interrupt blood flow to your penis resulting in diminished libido & cause erectile dysfunction or impotence - not to mention causing mouth, tongue, throat, lung, or pancreatic cancer. Just think how much money you will save by quitting!!!! You lungs with thank you every day of your life!
4 :
The damage that causes cancer is forever. And because of its strength, inhaling cigar smoke is unusually bad for your lungs. Fortunately, I doubt that 300 blunts is enough to give you a significant cancer risk!

Roughly how long does a person survive after being diagnosed with lung cancer that involves the lymph nodes

Roughly how long does a person survive after being diagnosed with lung cancer that involves the lymph nodes?
The patient has complications of heart and arterial schlerosis disease and is seventy-five years old. Kemotherapy and radiation treatments are scheduled. There is a small inoperable tumor in the lung. He also smokes. The patient DOES have small cell carcinoma.

Every person is different. So theres no exact answer. Cancer therapies have advanced by leaps and bounds in recent years, so people are living longer. All that said, the answer is no one knows for sure. The best educated guess comes from the most educated professionals, ( the Doctor) not from us losers on Yahoo Answers. :) God bless.
2 :
depends on how soon it's treated try the cancer centers of america they have good resources and high survival rates
3 :
It really depends on what type of lung cancer?? Small cell carcinoma of the lung is the fastest and usually most people with this diagnosis do not live past 6 months...The reason is lung cancer symptoms usually do not show up until the disease is advanced.. Chemo therapy can usually give you a little more time but it usually makes the person weak, and a lot of nausea and vomiting. Radiation will slow down the tumor but risks of burns to the skin is high....You can go to the Internet and put in lung cancer and read many different things. But first try and find out what type of lung cancer it is, this will answer a lot of questions for you... But no one even the doctors know when someone will die and miracles still happen. Good luck
4 :
It is impossible to tell, as the will of the patient is the final determiner. When my Mother had lung cancer the doctor told me she had "ten days" for five months. My mother took radiation treatments, but no chemo. If the patient has good pain treatment and can keep eating and enjoying life, he will live longer and better. Here is a link to a study I just found: http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/medicalnews.php?newsid=56079
5 :
Not all of us are Yahoo losers like Messier. Some of us really do know. Based on the info you gave, I'd say less than 6 months, and possibly half of that. Smoking should cease immediately; smoking will accelerate death. Have him get his affairs in order ASAP.

My husband was diagnosed March 20th He passed June 6th Had no symptoms. He was just 57 years old. We did chemo radiation gamma knife procedure and he took a drug called TARCEVA. The chemo pretty much took him out. We had to quit after 2 sessions. Good luck to you and I am so sorry for you. Just tell him how much you love him. Let him do the things he enjoys doing eat what he enjoys visit family and friends. We took alot of pictures had cook outs and get togethers. Stay strong I know how hard it is.

Can chronic pot smoking also lead to lung cancer

Can chronic pot smoking also lead to lung cancer?
I say smoking of any type is bad for you. Is this true? Can smoking pot lead to the same health hazards one would experience smoking cigarettes?

1 :
There are some health risks Lung cancer being a possibility But to say it has the same health hazards as cigarettes would be untrue
2 :
Smoking anything is bad for your lungs. But there are chemicals and unnatural substances in cigarettes that are NOT in weed, so cigarettes are much more harmful.
3 :
Pot has way more tar in it. So your lungs will get black faster. But, tobacco has a ton of carcinogens that pot does not have. However most of the cancer causeing elements of tobacco that is asumed to not be in pot are insecticides. Whos to say what chemicals are being used by your dealer. I would have to say pot, if untreated might not be as bad, but if it is being grown with the same methods as tobacco then it could be worse.

What are some vitamins for my grandpa to take, he was recently diagnosed with stage 3 small cell lung cancer

What are some vitamins for my grandpa to take, he was recently diagnosed with stage 3 small cell lung cancer?
We know there is not a cure. We just want to make his remaining time more manageable and comfortable.

Sorry about your grandfather. I would suggest that he take a multi vitamin such as Centrum Silver. He should also eat foods that are high in antioxidants such as fruits and leafy green vegetables. Also, he should not smoke or drink alcohol.
2 :
He should not be taking anything without discussing it with his oncologist first.

What is the relationship of smoking to the incidence of lung cancer in different cultures

What is the relationship of smoking to the incidence of lung cancer in different cultures?
my friend and i are having trouble with this question. Can you help???

1 :
just dont smoke........bottom line
2 :
What do you mean by culture? Smoking causes lung cancer -full stop, whatever the culture. If you are exposed in addition to mine dusts or asbestos or ....then the incidence will be even greater.(which might be influenced by culture) then passive smoking is also harmful and culture related. Then the different types of smoking have slighthly different effects -filters or no filters make a slight difference -but not much. Hope this helps a little -there are some answers on smoking and cancer in the YAHOO.
3 :
ok first of culture means country or type of place you live in right? and she doesnt smoke clearly it's a science question from school, and the answer that i think that americans smoke the most and especially young people or depressed people or some would say people with stomach problemos
4 :
hey! im that friend!!!! yea, plz help ppl!!!!!!!!!!!! we r so stuck!!!!

Are there any fundraisers for lung cancer awareness like there are for breast cancer

Are there any fundraisers for lung cancer awareness like there are for breast cancer?
I'm in Delaware, if that helps. And if not, how could I organize one? Any tips or ideas? @ Rape or † Abuse - I appreciate your answer, but that's not what I asked.

1 :
There is very little funding for lung cancer research. Since almost all cases are a result of chronic exposure to tobacco smoke it is considered a preventable condition.
2 :
The American Lung Association
3 :
Sorry. Breast cancer fund raising and research gets most of the money. Wish I had some answers for your fund raising. @ Rape or † Abuse is rude and the answer given is not totally honest.

if i smoke one cigar once a day will i still get lung cancer

if i smoke one cigar once a day will i still get lung cancer?
also i used to have asthma when i was like 6 but i can run and everything and ive smoked before and i didnt get an asthma attack or anything...... i basically wanna know how many times or how much i can smoke without running the risk of lung cancer or a heart attack
Other - Health - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
yes!!!
2 :
No one can answer this. Some people can smoke once and get lung cancer. Some people can smoke two packs a day and die with perfect lungs, when they're 90 years old. Unfortunately, your best bet would to NOT smoke at all. No reason you should risk it.
3 :
From my experience, one turns into three. And you run a high risk of getting asthma again because of the smoke. Why do you want to smoke anyways?
4 :
There is no definite answer. I had two aunts who never smoked and died of lung cancer. Winston Churchill smoked all his life and died of something else not related to smoking.

What illnesses can trigger lung cancer

What illnesses can trigger lung cancer?
Do you know of any diseases or sicknesses that can cause lung caner? I know there is one that does...but I can''t remember the name of it! Please help!

Illness doesn't cause lung cancer. True, Notalone, my dad had emphysema for 20 years before it killed him. He always said the drs were trying to give him cancer because they kept checking for it. He never had cancer of any kind, not does anyone else I've met with emphysema.
2 :
According to the medical news journal dated June 6, 2009, New research shows that chronic bronchitis and emphysema increases the risk of lung cancer. Note that is says 'increases the risk' that doesn't mean everyone with bronchitis and/or emphysema will get lung cancer.
3 :
mesothelioma from asbestos is a big one today. There are so many job trades that most males could have worked in at one time in this country and been exposed. I sometimes wonder if they tried to pawn most of it off on tobacco. But that's just me. A conspiracy behind every corner. Lol! Also, don't forget COPD, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder
