My mother was just diagnosed with an aggressive type of lung cancer; baby brother is in Iraq. Can he come home

My mother was just diagnosed with an aggressive type of lung cancer; baby brother is in Iraq. Can he come home?
He just joined up this summer. My mother doesn't want us to tell him, because he is over there and it might just worry him; also he has not been in long and she doesn't want to cause him any trouble. Has anyone else experienced this, and what will the military do? My brother is much younger than us and the only boy; to my mother, he is he center of the universe. I'm not sure what to do. Nazgul; she has small cell also.

They might let him on leave depends.... feel bad for you.. it shouldnt hurt to try
2 :
he could put in a request for a short term leave of absence, make sure he requests it under the family medical leave act. Cant guarantee it will be approved, but thats the best I know of. I think you should tell him regardless, I would be real PO'ed if something like that was going on and I didnt know....I would want the chance to say goodbye, just in case
3 :
It's possible they might give him a few weeks' leave. But think about this, would your mother want him to abandon his comrads in Iraq? I extend my sympathy to you and your family and hope the best for all of you.
4 :
He might be able to come home when she passes away,I am sorry for this. My mother lasted for 1 year with small cell lung cancer she passed 5 years ago. You can try the Red Cross and he might get a short leave but he will not be able to come home indefinitely, then when she does pass he might be able to come again. Good Luck I hope he makes it so they can see each other before hand. Vet-USAF I see the thumbs down troll has hit
5 :
The Military has Emergency Leaves. And problems in family is an Emergency. But usually you get Emergency leave when a family member dies.
6 :
Call the Red Cross. They are the go between of family and the military. Someone there could give you some good advice. He will not get in trouble. His mother is gravely ill, and he is the only son. He may be able to come home on leave, or the Red Cross will keep him apprised of her condition. Ask them what you should do. I know you don't want to worry him, tell them that and see what they say.
7 :
He might not be able to come home right away. I would suggest letting her doctor know about your brother and send a red cross message. He might not be able to come home but if worse comes to worse they can probably get him out to see her. When he gets back from deployment he can try for a compassionate reassignment to be closer to her. It depends on how aggressive the cancer is and if they give her a timeline etc.
8 :
You should tell him and let him handle it the way he wants. I don't know what the military rules are, but if he would be able to come home and didn't because you didn't tell him he may never forgive you. My mother died 10 weeks ago which was a year and a half after she was originally diagnosed with Lung Cancer. I can only imagine how irate and hurt I would be if I were not informed of her illness. My heart goes out to you and your family. May peace be with you. Here is a web site which helped us immensely. http://cancergrace.org/lung/
9 :
Go through the Red Cross.
10 :
It depends on how serious it will get. When you are deployed in Iraq it can be hard to leave because you're fulfilling a mission. If she is actually dying they will let him go for 2 weeks.
11 :
He can apply for a humanitarian re-assignment to the base or fort closest to her. The catch to that is it has to be for a condition that will resolve within six months. They will not do it if her problem will go on for years and years. The unfortunate thing is he is not considered her next of kin. That would be her husband. Since he is not next of kin, getting a humanitarian reassignment, specially with other kids in the area might be hard to get. If she becomes really sick you can contract the Red Cross and they can arrange for him to be informed and perhaps come home on emergency leave. That would be in the case of she is about to pass away. (FYI, I was in Germany when my Dad died of cancer and in Texas when my mother died of cancer. Both were in Minnesota so I was not there for either of them. But my brothers were. In neither case did I even consider asking for a humanitarian reassignment. I also got shipped out four days after the birth of my first child. I did not think about trying to get out of duty over that one either. Life goes on despite death and birth in the family.) In my opinion, if you are going to join the service you have to realize that you have new priorities. His may be to his unit and his buddies in the war zone. I do think you need to inform him of what is going on but make no demand or even suggestion that he come home. Let the decision be entirely his without any pressure from the family.
12 :
You have to contact the Red Cross to send a message to the Army to get him on emergency leave. Don't ask for him to come home unless he is REALLY needed there. It would be too disruptive for all involved.

I'm 14, and I've smoked weed here and there since the summer of 08, i also have asthma, do i have lung cancer

I'm 14, and I've smoked weed here and there since the summer of 08, i also have asthma, do i have lung cancer?
I started at around June or July. Whenever I do smoke, it would be only once or twice a week at most. I hardly, if ever, smoke anymore since school started in August, do I have lung cancer?

Smoking weed is only for people who can afford losing brain cells. You most definitely can't afford any!
2 :
lol who knows. go to the doctor to get a blood test and find out. ;)
3 :
I would guess.... Not yet.
4 :
i dont think so but u can get it so id stop smoking/weed it if i was u
5 :
you smoke like 5 or 6 times and you think you have cancer... your an idiot... seriously, you shouldnt do "grown-up things" if you think like a child
6 :
HA HA i doubt it
7 :
marijuana has almost no carcinogens (cancer causing agents) compared to tobacco smoke, so the chance that you have lung cancer from smoking pot are slim to none. there is still to this day no, i repeat, NO REPORTED DEATHS caused by smoking weed, i think you wil be just fine, as long as you don't start smoking cigs, too
8 :
Don't think so buddy. Sounds like you've got yourself a case of the jitters!
9 :
Yes you might. The best thing I can tell you right now is to go tell your parent or guardian exactly what you told us. This is a serious matter. You can die from lung cancer of course. ;)
10 :
Well, if you have a tumor in your lungs, yes. Stop smoking weed. If you have asthma, you are just going to make it worse. Smoking anything does serious damage to your body. Smoking weed is a nasty, smelly, stupid habit. Smoking will eventually lead to all sorts of probelms, sooner rather than later in some instances.
11 :
No nicotine in weed, but your brain cellzzs start to goezz afer a whilezzzz.
12 :
I dont think there are any chemicals in weed which would begin to develop cancer. So its just basically your lungs getting agitated from the smoke. But unfortunately weed does kill off brain cells and makes you sterile.
13 :
No You have to smoke weed every day for like 3 years to get any cancer from it If u smoke like 4 times a week that okay just don't over due it
14 :
yea ur gonna die you little delinquint! stay ur a ss in school!
15 :
No you don't have lung cancer, but you are an idiot.
16 :
You have to stop completely if you want to have a chance to live. It is only around 15% chance. Either this or you will die. Take it or leave it.
17 :
HAHA YOUR A FU CKIN DUMB A SS.
18 :
You should go to a doctor and have a checkup. Some peoples immune system is weak and they get diseases quickly, and some peoples immune system is strong and they dont even get diseases,so if your immune system is strong then the answer is no
19 :
dont do it dont f***** up your lungs and brain dont you know that weed kills your brain cells? seriously
20 :
Have you got severe weight loss, coughing up blood, chest and or back pain, diarrhoea, pain when breathing in or out, no ? then probably not yet, but carry on smoking if you want any of the above delightful symptoms:-)
21 :
Probably not but if you continue you probably will.
22 :
probably not but get checked on since you have asthma i suggest finding a smoke free way of getting high like making pot pastries to make pot pastries just boil your weed in butter for a good amount of time then sit and let harden after that use like regular butter hell you can just eat the butter if you F@%$ING wanted to it would still work.
23 :
Marijuana doesn't kill brain cells (on the contrary, it spurs new brain cell growth). http://news.healingwell.com/index.php?p=news1&id=528519 The study that suggested marijuana kills brain cells, came to that conclusion by putting gas masks on monkeys. They were literally suffocating the monkeys with smoke. It's an obvious fact that suffocation will lead to brain cell loss and possibly brain damage. Marijuana doesn't cause cancer. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/05/25/AR2006052501729_pf.html And marijuana can also be beneficial to asthma patients. http://www.druglibrary.org/schaffer/hemp/medical/tashkin/tashkin1.htm It is impossible to overdose on marijuana as well. http://www.druglibrary.org/schaffer/library/mj_overdose.htm There have been no recorded deaths due to marijuana use.

if the chemo appears to be working, then radiation might not be necessary. Don't try to look into the future on this, even doctors can't predict how well one treatment might work over another.

Try ASEA, Look up www.teamasea.com/holisticservices. The product is astounding! Money back guarantee also from ASEA. Impressive results in just 3 days with someone with lung cancer. Testimonies in one particular case of pancreatic Stage 4 cancer dropping to Stage 2 in a very short period of time.If you know anything about pancreatic cancer -no one comes back from it. Mind you ASEA the company cannot & won't promote it because of FDA Regulations. My personal goal is tell the whole world of this wonderful product.BELIEVE or NOT!! (All about Redox molecules -everyone needs them-find out how they go array! & Find out how to supply your body with them) Source(s): http://www.teamasea.com/holisticservices

I agree totally with what "essentially solo" said. Good luck:)

gc - I know from personal experience that this is a very difficult and uncertain decision time. Your Mom has little chance of survival. Her wishes should be respected because only she knows what she feels and so she must decide, sometimes from day-to-day. Her treatment now is to try and possibly shrink any tumor and to make her a bit more comfortable even though her remaining life will likely not be extended. Hopefully, chemotherapy is now doing that even though it produces some immediate awful effects in many for a short time. Radiation therapy often damages the normal lining of the esophagus (food tube) so that the patient won't want to swallow anything because of the pain, sometimes requiring a feeding tube. Only your mom knows what she feels. Please support and respect her decisions and continue to let her know how much you love her. Then accept the outcome as you hold on to many memories of happier days past.

Can you get lung cancer from 5 years of smoking

Can you get lung cancer from 5 years of smoking?
I'm asking this because I've had a cough for about a week. It seems like a dry cough. I get this tickle in my throat when causes me to cough. What are my chances of getting primary lung cancer from smoking for 5 years? I smoke maybe a pack a day. It hasn't been a pack a day for 5 years though. BTW, im 19.

You can potentially get lung cancer from 5 years of smoking. But most likely what your cough is, is your cilia which have been tared and stuck to the sides of your lungs for the past several years are slowly freeing them selves and slowly beginning to work properly again. Be thankful your slowly healing from years of damage.
2 :
u were smoking for 5 years THATS NOT GOOD IF U ARE 19 U smoked against the laww
3 :
You can get lung cancer without ever having touched a cigarette? My dad had lung cancer when he was 73 after smoking for 60 year and he had a cough but it was not a dry cough, he had a lot of phlegm, he had part of lung removed and survived, he died 3 years later of bowel cancer and he hadn't smoked since lung cancer was diagnosed, what makes you think you could have lung cancer because you smoke, it can also cause bowel cancer, stomach, liver, kidney, breast, and various others, as does drinking alcohol, bad diet and food additives? we are breathing in car exhaust fumes that have more cancer causing chemicals in it than cigarettes do - see your doctor if you are worried but I wouldn't think you have cancer. - I have a cough most of the time, age 52 smoke 40 cigarettes a day and don't have lung cancer.

Hi Ethan: Did you know you can even get lung cancer from Second hand smoke with out ever smoking a day in your life. I had small cell carcinoma in my left lung and I don't smoke. Your 19 your young Quit now Don't wait till it is too late. (did you know they put ammonia in some brands of cigarettes. if you did not smoke you could probably smell it.) PS lung cancer does hurt and it hurts to take a breath, when you lay down at night your lung feels like it weighs a ton as well as it is hard to take a breath so you feel like you are going to drown. Think about what I wrote If I could I would even show you the scar where they took out my left lung. Not Pretty.
5 :
Has your cough at least encouraged you to quit smoking? I don't know if you really have lung cancer, but keep it up and you'll be a miserable man by the time you're 30.

My dog has lung cancer. Are there any herbs I can give her to help with her immune system

My dog has lung cancer. Are there any herbs I can give her to help with her immune system?
as well as to help with her respiratory system. Of course she is under the care of a vet and I won't consider any suggestions as hard medical advice. Also, I have accepted the inevitable and am not seeking a miracle cure. Just something to keep her comfortable. She is still active but I notice her panting more.

Instead of trying to prolong the inevitable, what you should do is try and make the rest of her life as comfortable as possible. Ask your vet if there are any doggy pain killers to help her in her final weeks. If she is suffering a lot, as painful as it is, you may need to just have her put down. I'm sorry to hear that, I send my condolence.

Have you considered alternative cancer treatments like dietary supplements? I found this website to be a great source for cancer and dietary information. http://www.helpyourdog.net

Lung cancer is a disease of uncontrolled cell growth in tissues of the lung. This growth may lead to metastasis, which is the invasion of adjacent tissue and infiltration beyond the lungs. The vast majority of primary lung cancers are carcinomas of the lung, derived from epithelial cells. Lung cancer, the most common cause of cancer-related death in men and the second most common in women (after breast cancer),[1] is responsible for 1.3 million deaths worldwide annually.[2] The most common symptoms are shortness of breath, coughing (including coughing up blood), and weight loss.[3]

Haelen soy probably provides a very good income stream for the people selling it. I was going to suggest that if you had money to burn that you buy a bottle and try it after first clearing it with his oncologist. Then I read the suggested dosage is one 60 dollar bottle a day. That's eighteen hundred dollars a month for a distilled soy concentrate. That is very expensive soy milk with no proof of efficacy other than anecdotes on the internet. If this substance worked all that well for curing cancer then you would have heard about it on CNN and not a self promoted web page. good luck to your father
