has anyone here gotten or known someone wiht lung cancer from smoking cigars

has anyone here gotten or known someone wiht lung cancer from smoking cigars?
I enjoy a cigar maybe once or twice a week. I know if I did this for a long long time then I could get some type of cancer, but I want to know what the stats are on cigar smokers vs. cigarette smokers. Please don't answer if you don't know anything about this subject. Don't say "it is bad for you" I know it is but I would rather smoke then drink every night. Anyways, please comment on what you think would happen. This doesn't mean I will be quitting, maybe after a few years. But for know I just want to know the stats on the cancer rate of cigar smokers. Thank you for your posts. Also, anyone know how many people got cancer from smoking a hundred years ago when more poeple did smoke?

my grandpa smokes cigars and he has all types of diseases. he is 87 and a walking miracle. my uncle smoked strenuosly from age 15-50, which is when he died. please, do not smoke.
2 :
I don't have stats, but I understand cigar smokers usually don't end up inhaling as much as cigarette smokers, so it probably isn't as hard on the lungs. However, like pipe smokers, there is always the danger of cancer in the mouth, which can be pretty horrid.
3 :
Although I don't know stats, I can say that cigars have no filters. The chemicals are what cause cancers. If you have no filter to "clean" out the chemicals, then there's absolutely no protection. You're taking in everything.
4 :
Well, first off you aren't going to find good stats for 100 yrs ago for cancer because they were unable to accurately diagnose cancer 100 yrs ago. People would die but they were not able to tell what killed them. Here's some info on the stats of cancer and cigar smoking: http://www.lungusa.org/site/pp.asp?c=dvLUK9O0E&b=39859
5 :
My aunt had lung cancer, but as far as I know she never smoked anything. Her dad smoked alot and some of her sisters and brother smoke. I'm guessing she got it from second hand smoke. She did all the treatments. Its been a few years and she is now recovering from a tumor she had in her brain.

I am 31 years old. I have never known anyone who got lung cancer from smoking cigars OR cigarettes. I'm guessing that since one is not supposed to actually inhale when they smoke cigars, and since so many more people smoke cigarettes, that the stats are much higher for getting lung cancer from smoking cigarettes. That said, I can only think of one person I know who smokes cigars. He is in his 70's and has no cancer issues, as far as we know. He is physically active, eats pretty healthfully, does not drink, and has a cigar perhaps once or twice a month. I have no idea what the stats are on this. I've never even known someone who smoked cigarettes and had lung cancer, but as a person who recently quit smoking (cigarettes), I'm willing to believe the stats. (Anyway, I'm sick of paying so much money for cigarettes. Funny how everyone hates smokers but they're supposed to pay for everything under the sun with the sin tax added to cigarettes. As more and more people quit smoking due to the stigma, regulations, expense, and health issues, I'm sure the govt. will redirect their energies to alcohol, junk food, etc. Fewer smokers = less tax revenue, at least in my state!)

I just found out my 18 year old friend has lung cancer... how much longer do you think he has to live

I just found out my 18 year old friend has lung cancer... how much longer do you think he has to live?
I mean, yes i know its different for everyone. but on average, how long do lung cancer patients live? Hes has been smoking since he was 14, so take that into consideration.

14 months is the avg
2 :
you have to ask his doctor there is no way we would know and why have you already decided that he is going to die?
3 :
It depends on what stage the cancer is, it is not always a death sentence.
4 :
18 years old with lung cancer??? People in their teens don't get lung cancer, or in their twenties. It is very rare that people in their thirties get lung cancer. Either you are making this up or your friend is lying to you. EDIT: It takes DECADES for lung cancer to develop from tobacco smoke. The median age at the time of diagnosis is 71 years. It is very very rare to be diagnosed with lung cancer before the age of 45.
5 :
This is so rare at such a young age that I doubt accurate statistics are available.
6 :
dont jump to conclusions that he will die...it can be treated and cured..you and him jus hafe to work hard at it..but if it looks like it cant be cured it may be he coould have 14 to 16 months..sorrry
7 :
I am so sorry and hope you are both dealing with it as best possible. :( It depends what type it is, my dad had lung cancer, the type was small cell which is the worst, he survived for 9 months after being diognosed, if it is large cell it may have a higher possibility of being cured and if it is terminal then I beleive on average it is a longer time. I hope you are ok if you need someone to talk to feel free I'm happy to do as much as I can since I have already been through my best friend (when we were 5), grandpa and dad, I know its different for everyone but feel free. I am not sure how old you are.. but I am 17 and female I hope your friend if feeling as well as possible

This does not seem to be real Q.It is not possible to have lung Ca.at this early age. However following will help you.--- Lung cancer ranks as one of the deadliest types of cancer, with a five-year survival rate of only 16%. But for those who catch it early, there's a new, less invasive way to help boost those odds. NEW APPROACHES: In video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery, or VATS, surgeons use small multiple keyhole incisions to insert a long instrument into the body to do the work doctors hands would do in a lobectomy. The advantages are that patients have less post-operative discomfort because the instrument allows the doctor to avoid spreading the ribs to get to the tumor, and a shorter hospitalization
9 :
not possible--even if he smoked from day one. he may have lung disease, and it may be very serious, but it's not lung cancer

how long do lung cancer patients survive

how long do lung cancer patients survive?
my mom had lung cancer two months ago, but the doctors said they removed the whole cancer, and they said it was also in the early stages. However, I heard that there is a chance that it could come back again. Also, i heard that the number of years a cancer patient lasts is about 5, but in my mom's case, i think it might be different..

it might depend on how far it went before she got it detected. my grandma lived 7 years when they gave her 3. and my grandfather was givin 6 months and passed away almost to the day.
2 :
it just REALLY depends on the patient and the treatments that they can or choose to undergo! we're going thru the same thing w/ my M-I-L. She is choosing to undergo chemo/radiation treatments. If that doesn't work..she has the option of removing the one infected lung-if it hasn't spread by then!

Is this signs of Lung Cancer or just nicotine withdrawl

Is this signs of Lung Cancer or just nicotine withdrawl?
I recently quit smoking. I now have a cough, and sometimes have pressure in my chest. I also have to clear my throat more time than normal. Should I be concerned or is this just withdrawl from quiting?

Yeah it's all the gunk in your lungs trying to get out. Keep well hydrated (I'd go for over hydrated) and it will clear itself out.

How much will we pay to take care of Barry 0bama when he gets lung cancer

How much will we pay to take care of Barry 0bama when he gets lung cancer?
Shouldn't that be taken from his income since he can afford it? Why are we going to be forced to waste money on an "educated" man when others who have true medical needs --- not caused by ignoring warnings about smoking --- will be struggling?

He quit smoking, you do know that right????
2 :
Barry is smoking at least two packs of Kools a day.
3 :
wow that's an awful thing to say about anyone....
4 :
About the same amount that we pay to take care of George Bush after his heart and liver give out because of all the cocaine and alcohol he abused. Conservative tool.
5 :
i'd guess a bit more than what we paid for his date with michelle.

this type of tech is in development, but it is not yet available. As of right now you a diagnosis can be made from a combination of : a biopsy, CT scan, MRI, Bronchoscopy , Sputum cytology, chest x-ray, and a couple other ways. check out these website: http://www.cancer.org/docroot/CRI/content/CRI_2_4_3x_How_Is_Non-Small_Cell_Lung_Cancer_Diagnosed.asp http://www.cancer.org/docroot/CRI/content/CRI_2_4_3x_How_Is_Small_Cell_Lung_Cancer_Diagnosed.asp God bless you and I hope you are OK.
2 :
There is no blood test to diagnose cancer.
3 :
You can easily check your minimal health care rates in internet, for example here - health-quotes.talk4fun.net

How can I smoke weed without getting lung cancer

How can I smoke weed without getting lung cancer?
I roll my weed in cigarellos and I know it has tobacco in it so what can I roll my weed in that don't have tobacco products in it?
Cancer - 13 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Weed doesn't have any risk of lung cancer. Go for it.
2 :
Roll your weed in regular rollies? ZigZags are a favorite of most, of you could smoke from a pipe or a bong.
3 :
dont use cigarellos then !!! ?
4 :
just stop doing it
5 :
How do I jump off a building with no parachute without breaking my bones?
6 :
Neither of the other answers are correct. THC has 32 known carcinogens in it so your only chance of NOT getting lung cancer in the future is NOT to smoke anything.
7 :
If you get lung cancer you get lung cancer, but it would have nothing to do with smoking weed. Smoking weed does not cause it or prevent it.
8 :
Smoking anything is allowing unknown chemicals into your body. It may not be as harsh as cigarettes, but it does have risk of lung cancer.
9 :
If you smoke may be any thing, then there is only one way to reduce chances of getting lung cancer and that is ----TO STOP SMOKING. DO IT.
10 :
Buy some non-cancer causing rolling papers. Or, even better, invest in a vaporizer. Also: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/05/25/AR2006052501729.html
11 :
Bake with it! It takes you to a completely different high and has no effect on your lungs what-so-ever =) its really easy, you just have to simmer the weed in an oil or butter for maybe 20 minutes then bake it into whatever you'd like...
12 :
regular rolling papers or a pipe
13 :
Don't use cigarellos or smoke tabacco, just smoke weed from bowls, bongs, vaporizers, or zig zags. There hasn't been one confirmed report that marijuana itself cause lung cancer, but there are plenty from tobacco.
