She is probably going to need antibiotics to resolve a bacterial infection. Tuberculosis (TB) is a bacterial infection, but not the only one. If she has a fever over 101 degrees, she should see the doctor. This is not how lung cancer presents.
2 :
yes coughing is the #1 symptom of lung cancer also having trouble breathing is one too sometimes your friend should go to doc very soon because yes its 40 bucks but its better safe than sorry hope she feels better soon p.s it can also be either bronchitis or pnemonia.
3 :
She needs her lungs checked. She might have bronkitis. Or she might have allergies.
4 :
The most common ones are severe coughing, sharp pains in the chest, shortage of breath, and weak feeling lungs.
5 :
Lung cancers are classified according to histological type: non-small cell and small-cell lung carcinoma.Symptoms that suggest lung cancer include: dyspnea (shortness of breath) hemoptysis (coughing up blood) chronic coughing or change in regular coughing pattern wheezing chest pain or pain in the abdomen cachexia (weight loss), fatigue, and loss of appetite dysphonia (hoarse voice) clubbing of the fingernails (uncommon) dysphagia (difficulty swallowing). Many of the symptoms of lung cancer (bone pain, fever, and weight loss) are nonspecific; in the elderly, these may be attributed to comorbid illness.

How many cigarettes does it take to get lung cancer

How many cigarettes does it take to get lung cancer?
my uncle sid has smoked 10 cigarettes a day since he was 10 and he is 62 now. Iam very worried i think he is a very cool guy and i dont want to see him go.

Your chances of getting lung cancer are just greater if you smoke, you might never get lung cancer but your chances are better than someone who doesn't smoke. It is the same as with gambling.
2 :
Ive heard one is all it takes... But there is no real limit its what your body can handle... And most Body+Cigarettes=No Good
3 :
Unfortunately there is no number that causes lung cancer. It depends a lot on family history/genes. There are people who smoke 3 packs a day their whole life and do not get cancer, and on the other side there are people who have never smoked a day in their lives and get lung cancer. However, it really does not help your chances to stay cancer-free when you have smoked for that long. Cigarettes greatly increase your risks. Lung cancer is not the only risk, there are also cardiovascular risk factors as well. And it is never too late to quit, although that will not have any guarantees either, as a lot of damage is irreversible. Sorry I am not trying to worry you further, just being honest. Encourage your uncle to start living a healthier lifestyle and tell him how you feel. Living healthier can possibly prolong his life.
4 :
Roughly 584,000 non filtered camels did my best friend in at the age of 55. He smoked 40 a day for 40 years. I went to see him 2 weeks before he died. When I arrived he was in a hospital bed at home in the breeze way with the oxygen on. He shut off the gas and had four smokes while I was there. He called to his wife and she gave morphine under his tongue. He began to see old witches, so I left. He died a horrible death of pain coupled with Bronchitis.
5 :
There isn't a specific number..it can vary from person to person...the best advice is for him to quit
6 :
my grand mother smoked cigs and drank rum from the time she was 13 untill now and she doesnt have any problems she even goes to the chicken fights with me and she goes white water rafting and she is 97 years young
7 :
My Dad and my Husband both smoke and I worry very much about them. My Dad is 65 and does not have lung cancer, but was just diagnosed with bladder cancer. He is quitting smoking now. My Dad has always been very healthy all of my life. I read that smokers have a very high risk of bladder cancer. So let your Uncle know that he is risking his health and that you love him and beg him to quit. If he has any symptoms that something is wrong like blood in his urine to get to the doctor right away and get it taken care of. Try giving him some Commit losenges. One method that actually worked for my friend was weaning herself off of cigarettes. She smoked a pack a day. Every day she would smoke one less, until she was down to no cigarettes. It worked for her. That way her body was used to less and less nicotine. I hope you can get your Uncle to quit. I can't believe there are young people out there that actually take up smoking nowadays. Everyone knows how harmful they are and they do it anyways? I think that is really bad. Best wishes to you.

What does it mean when you have seizures and you have lung cancer

What does it mean when you have seizures and you have lung cancer?
does it mean your going to die?

It means you need to go to the emergency room and get a CT or MRI of the head. This could be metastasis to the brain, for which there are treatments you can get some relief from
2 :
It does not mean you are going to die, in-fact it could mean nothing, a side effect to treatment is very possible. On the other side it could mean that you have stage four lung cancer and it has spread to your brain. Get checked out by a doctor, This could range from very serious to nothing at all. Check out the website below to provide you with more information,

I should be able to avoid lung cancer by quitting smoking right

I should be able to avoid lung cancer by quitting smoking right?
I smoked from 2005 to 2010 but I smoked on and off (swishers filled with weed). I never smoked everyday and I probably have about 300 Blunts of weed in my lungs over 4 years. But every website that I read says lungs regenerate within 5 years for young people and 10 years for heavy old smokers. Im turning 26 and quitting forever. What do you think?

Yes it's true that your lung tissue can "heal" itself after years of not smoking ANYTHING. That does not mean that you'll never have lung cancer. Even non-smokers get lung cancer. But being a non-smoker does decrease your chance immensely. Keep smoking and you're just playing with fire.

If a person has been smoking for 15-20 years, is it a guarantee for lung cancer etc

If a person has been smoking for 15-20 years, is it a guarantee for lung cancer etc?
My aunt has been smoking for that long and we've been begging her to stop but she just hides it. Im worried and she wont go to a doctor or anything. I just want to know if lung disease or anything is a guarantee and if there's anything we can do about it. To reverse the effects as soon as she stops smoking or something.

1 :
Nothing is guaranteed. George Burns smoked a cigar and drank every day and lived to be over 100. Your chances are greatly increased, of course, but there's no guarantee of anything.
2 :
Even if she stops right now, there's no guarantees she won't get lung cancer or something else anyways. Genetics and other factors are important too. Some people (but that's the exception) for whatever reason never get cancer. So there's no guarantees either way. The best she can do is stop and hope for the best.
3 :
It is not guaranteed but she is at greater risk of it. Many people smoke for their whole adult life and do not develop lung disease or smoking related illnesses, and then others do. I am sure your aunt knows the risks associated with smoking. If she wants to give up but feels it is too hard then encourage her to see a doctor for nicotine replacement therapy and to attend a smoking cessation group. If she does not want to give up then there isn't much you can do.
4 :
You will have to stop worring about her. She will continue to do as she has done all along. My aunt back in the 90s did exactly what your did. Eventually it caught up with her not listening to the family and she got cancer and had to have cemotherepy, Now it is 2009 and she died of cancer over a year ago now. If it will happen it will happen but dont go thinking she will get it many people smoke and dont get lung cancer it really depends on what condition your aunt is in. Best of luck to you and your family .
5 :
My grandmother smoked something like two packs a day for 40 years and never got cancer. She did die though, at 79. Her mother had lived to more like 96.
6 :
No. Genetics have a lot to do with it. Both of my grandfathers lived into their 90's and they both smoked. My dad has smoked since he was a teenager and he is a very healthy, active 76 year old (remember that the average lifespan is only 77 anyway). My mom was a smoker but she died in a car wreck--and it didn't matter if she smoked or not because she died instantly. My brother was a non-smoker but he died at 50 of prostate cancer. Smoking isn't healthy but people die of all kinds of reasons. Smoking raises the risk of lung cancer but many people get lung cancer and never smoke (and aren't around smokers). Has your aunt's home been tasted for Radon? That can cause lung cancer too. There have also been studies showing that taking hot showers with city water (chlorinated water) is bad for your lungs because you are breathing in the chlorine.
7 :
My grandparents are 88 and 83 and have been smoking for over 60 years, with no signs of quitting. They are healthier than most non smokers in their 50's.
8 :
Use this tool: http://www.mskcc.org/mskcc/shared/forms/Nomograms/flash/load.cfm?type=lung&width=585&height=445&title=LungCancerRiskAssessment It only works if you're 50 plus and if you've smoked for 25 years or more. But if she were 50 and had smoked 40 a day for 25 years, her risk of lung cancer would still be less than 1%, although much higher than in a non-smoker.

Will it eliminate the risk? No. Dana Reeve (Christopher "Superman" Reeve's wife) died of lung cancer and had never smoked. Will it lower the risk significantly? Yes.
2 :
Yup. Also smoking is your lifes biggest most idiotioc dumbest mistake.
3 :
I had an uncle who died on lung cancer and he never smoked a day in his life. It says right on the pack "Quitting smoking now greatly reduces serious risks to your health" It only means there less of a chance you can get it if you stop... but theres still a chance. So basically if you quit or not it don't matter, you still have a chance.. so smoke it up.
4 :
Rather you smoke or not...no one can aviod lung cancer...you can just lower your risk by not smoking.
5 :
obviously you've never read any information on biology to actually learn about what cancer is... The cells in your body constantly reproduce by splitting and thus forming new cells, they duplicate DNA to do this. Your genes are the sequence of DNA used to produce proteins. Proteins are strands of made of a set of 20 building blocks called amino acids that are strung together in a line. These amino acids attract and repell each other and so cause the strands to coiled and bunch up forming a specific shape. The protein is then able to interact w/ other proteins and chemicals and perform functions based on it's sequence and shape. A large ammount of the material in your body and that make up the cell are proteins and these play an important role in coltrolling everything your cells do and that takes place in them. Cells function by making proteins by reading then DNA as needed and destroying them when they aren't needed.. Ocassionally errors are made during the gene duplication and the wrong sequence gets encoded. Most mistakes will result in the cell dieing. However, some mistakes will allow the cell to live and continue to reproduce and thus pass on the error. Mistakes such as errors in the genes responsible for DNA duplication and checking that DNA is duplicated correctly (cells have DNA spell check systems), will lead to move errors. Errors can cause a cell to be able to continue without dieing or grow uncontrollably, or be able to live in different environment of the body and thus spread. Cancer is the condition of having errors in cells' DNA have caused cells to grow, reproduce, and behave in bad ways that are harmful to the body. In order for cancer to develop inwhich it would be a problem, it is likely to result from many errors in DNA: a combination in errors in DNA responsible for DNA replication, cell reproduction growth etc. Errors will probably occur naturally at a low rate, but if cells are in a stressed environment errors will ocurr more often. Things such as getting sun burned, exposure to radiation, and toxic/carcinogenic chemicals stress the cells and cause them to make more mistakes more often. Whenever you breath in particles, your lungs work to remove them. Your lungs do this by having mucus trap dirt and carry it out of lungs. Deep in your lungs however, the passage ways are too narrow for mucus to do that and so phagocytic cells "eat" or capture "dirt" particles and thus get remove them. When you smoke you breathe in lots of particles thus over working your lungs to remove them, which can cause the cells in your lungs to become irritated and inflamed, from your failure to remove the dirt, leading to them making more mistakes. Therefore, since you smoke there's a good chance in doing so you caused cells in your lungs to make errors in DNA replication. Such errors in your DNA may not might not do any harm, but you may continue to pass on from one lung cell to another. Getting cancer is all a matter of chance. By smoking you've increased your chances of developing cancer in the future. Since cancer results from a combination of errors in your DNA, you may not experience any effects until cells have accumulated the right (or rather wrong) combination of errors that cause your body harm. By smoking, you're more likely to have already accumulated some errors and so are more prone to get cancer. Since cancer is error in duplicating your DNA,it should be clear from grasping this concept, why it's so difficult to cure cancer. Also it should be understandable why there are so many types of cancer, because it can occur in all different types of cells all over your body and can effect different genes in your dna. Cancer is just chance and so all you can really do is reduce your risk, but avoiding things that are carcinogenic, and realize once, you've exposed you're self to carcinogenic situations, any damage you did will likely take with you. By lungs regenerating, they mean the health of your lungs will improve as the dirt gets cleaned out, but that won't reverse any precancerous damage you;ve already caused to lungs. You could not smoke for 60 and suddenly get lung cancer as a result of having smoked those 4 years. Seems like everything can cause cancer and everyone old I know gets cancer by the time they reach 80. My grandmother never smoked, but got 2nd hand from grandfather and has been battling lung cancer for a decade. This doesn't mean you should consider urself already screwed and just go ahead smoking, because u might not have done damage, but continuing would just increases risk, but I don't think you should miss out on life out of fear of cancer. Live a full life, just don't be unnecessarily reckless. I'd be more concerned about you're ambitions in life if u'r spending everyday smoking weed. read up on cell bio its interesting shiz

Hi I am not sure what stage she may be in, but I think you need to prepare yourself for the possibility that she may not be here very long. Even if she goes through the chemo, she is an elderly person and chances are her body will not hold up. My dad died of lung cancer and the best advice I can give you is to make the most of the time she has left with you. If you want to read up on it: http://www.medicinenet.com/lung_cancer/article.htm
2 :
Treatment Treatment for lung cancer depends on the type of cancer (small cell or non-small cell); the size, location, and extent of the tumor; and the general health of the patient. There are several different kinds of treatment, which may be used alone or in combination: Surgery to remove the tumor is the most common treatment for non-small cell lung cancer. Removal of a small section of the lung containing the tumor is called wedge resection. When an entire lobe is removed (your right lung has three lobes and your left lung has two), the procedure is called a lobectomy. This is the most common type of lung cancer surgery. Pneumonectomy is the removal of an entire lung. http://www.stjohn.org/HealthInfoLib/swArticle.aspx?2,624 I WILL PRAY FOR YOUR GRANDMA.
3 :
Every year about 1,3 millions people worldwide die from this form of cancer. Lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer related deaths in men, and second most common cause in women. This is how deadly lung cancer is. You can find more info here http://interesting-science-facts.blogspot.com/2009/02/lung-cancer-compact-decsription-and.html
