How many people get lung cancer from asbestos siding

How many people get lung cancer from asbestos siding?
Are there any statistics online?

I am sure there are. You should know that the handling of asbestos siding does not hurt you because it is in solid form. When you cut, sand or alter it in any way that produces dust, that dust can be inhaled and that is what causes the damage.

it takes years to really clean out your lungs from any kind of stuff you smoke. the longer you smoke, the more likely you are to develop cancer or emphysema. you're still young - get clean and honor your health and body. as for stress relief, go on a good long walk or run, ride your bike, any kind of exercise. nothing quite like it for the head and heart, not to mention your physical condition.
2 :
You can get lung cancer even if you never smoked. The risk of developing cancer does decrease each year after quitting smoking. There seems to be much debate about whether smoking cannabis causes cancer. If you're concerned about lung health, I suggest you not smoke anything at all or use any drugs which are inhaled. As far as stress relief goes, everyone is different. Try going for walks, visiting friends, or meditating.
3 :
In fact the SMOKING is the MAJOR cause of the lung cancer .. so if you stop smoking the risk will decrease of course
4 :
Yes but then you can get lung cancer even if you've never smoked, it's just much more common in smokers
5 :
You can get cancer from quite a few things, even second hand smoke, from your parents and friends. Every drug you stick into your body, is going to harm you in the long run. And the weed will f**.. up your brain before you get lung cancer. Try dementia. It is such a nice ailment. You'll enjoy it tremendously. Peace.
6 :
Don't worry -- it takes at least 10 pack years to develop lung cancer, so no, you can't, unless you smoked two packs a day for 5 years. Even then the risk would be small.

Why should all of us have to pay the same size medicare premiums people smoking their way into lung cancer

Why should all of us have to pay the same size medicare premiums people smoking their way into lung cancer?
Or drunks who ruin their livers? Or obese people who destroy their bodies? For those of us who don't do those things, why shouldn't we demand to pay less, and those who are abusive with their bodies be required to pay more?
Politics - 20 Answers

1 :
because the government owns your body now
2 :
I warn you. Do not attempt to further regulate personal choice. I am owner of my body and if I choose to abuse it I WILL!
3 :
There should be extra tax on alcohol and cigarettes just for that reason. The extra money would go directly to Medicare. The tax would be like an investment for their future.
4 :
For the same reason you are judging people.
5 :
How do you test for this and accurately avoid fraud?
6 :
We shouldn't. -that's what we've been trying to tell you people.
7 :
STFU ill smoke, drink and eat as much as I want.... if you dont like it then I suggest you start doing the same.
8 :
Because you're not perfect either.
9 :
Right... But why do I have to pay for YOUR psychiatric treatment?
10 :
Because you voted for Obama...
11 :
Sounds fair...as long as you take this line of reasoning all the way. Male homosexuals should be charged more as well, as their lifestyle leads to exponentially higher rates of HIV and Hepatitis C infections than those suffered by heterosexuals and lesbians. PC or not, it's a fact. We can't single out this unhealthy act or that unhealthy act for higher premiums if we're not going to look at EVERYTHING through the same prism.
12 :
Sid you have so much to learn, I hope you live long enough to have learned enough not to continue making statements that show how little you really know.
13 :
um that is how "private" insurance is run.....and Obama made sure that it will be gone soon..........get use to it.....pay for all the drunks, smokers, and couch potatoes that live off the system....lol
14 :
If you said health insurance premiums it might have made sense... people who live shorter lives use LESS resources from medicare - not more.
15 :
Well by the same token the smokers, and obese die much earlier.....which leads to less use of the health care system. So those same could argue that they should not be paying for the skinny, healthy, vegetarian guy (who is more likely to eat up more services because he will live longer and die far slower). I could see this argument working much better for life insurance, but health insurance not so much (I have known a couple of people that died of lung cancer and they received little to no actual medical treatment....other than comfort at time of death and detection and discovery of the cancer in the first place). Actually one of the arguments they actually made in China for smoking (actually attempting to increase the number of smokers) was that it would assist in control of population and reduce the burden on the government and society (especially as it concerned the elderly).
16 :
The self is the mind, and the most selfish act is the exercise of one`s independent judgment. In attacking the independent judgment of your own self interest, the Demanders Of Sacrifice, those who decry `selfishness` for `societal good`, seek to make you surrender your mind.
17 :
I can certainly see your point. Why should we have to pay for 100,000 abortions when there are those of us who think it is wrong? Why should we pay for some idiotic "artist" to smear feces on a photo of The Last Supper and have some critic call it "art"? Why should we have to pay for an organization like ACORN to do its filthy, corrupt business for the Left? If only it were as easy as only paying for what we think it right... Fat *uckin' chance.
18 :
Because there is just no way to fairly manage a system like you want. Who gets to make all these life saving decisions? How much abuse is a person allowed? Does social drinking count? How many beers can a person have before they are charged extra? Who watches all this alcohol consumption and smoking being done to make it fair to everyone when it comes to charging people more money? Does out doctors have to report us to some agency? What about our privacy laws when it comes to getting medical care? How many cigarettes is considered abuse? Do you send out private investigators watching everyone and reporting on them making sure they are behaving right? To make your system of health care work, you would have to subject Americans to a lot of invasion by whoever controls everything which would probably be the government. I wouldn't feel like we would be free with living in a world like you want. No one is perfect. Not even you. How about anorexics that won't eat at all? Do they get charged extra too. There are many people out there that are mentally ill that self medicate and abuse themselves. Do you want the mentally ill to be charged extra too even though they might not have control due to their mental illness? This is just too complicated to manage and would never work. It would take more money and more people to govern all this and end up costing us more that we are paying now for health care. Think about it.
19 :
How would Medicare know which people drink or smoke in order to charge them higher premiums? Medicare is neutral and you don't answer a medical questionnaire before being covered. By the time a person is 65 they have other health problems beside alcohol and cigarettes and that is factored in. The premium is going up to $110 per month this year and we will be paying more than 20% of the charges.
20 :
Your first question should be is why medical expenses are so high. The next question should be why you think all your money goes to medical. 32% of taxes go to military, 50% goes to debt interest, that only leaves 18% of American money actually going back to Americans in all forms of the government. So if you pay $10,000 in taxes a year, $8200 of that goes to wars in foreign countries and interest in debt to foreign countries.

What were your symptoms and how long did you have them before you got lung cancer

What were your symptoms and how long did you have them before you got lung cancer?
Did you have asthma first? How many years did you have a cough and clear x-rays? I've had a nasty cough for years and they said it is from asthma. I didn't use to have asthma until I became an adult. I used to smoke age 16-19. My grandfather died of lung cancer. I wonder how long your lungs are irritated with a cough, asthma, and lung problems before a tumor forms.

Lung cancer typically doesn't cause signs and symptoms in its earliest stages. Signs and symptoms of lung cancer typically occur only when the disease is advanced. Signs and symptoms of lung cancer may include: * A new cough that doesn't go away * Changes in a chronic cough or "smoker's cough" * Coughing up blood, even a small amount * Shortness of breath * Chest pain * Wheezing * Hoarseness * Losing weight without trying * Bone pain * Headache When to see a doctor Make an appointment with your doctor if you have any signs or symptoms that worry you. If you smoke and want to stop in order to reduce your risk of lung cancer, make an appointment with your doctor. Your doctor can recommend strategies for quitting, such as counseling, medications and nicotine replacement products. asthma & cancer have no correlation unless you smoke, then you have a higher risk. A number of factors may increase your risk of lung cancer. Some risk factors can be controlled, for instance, by quitting smoking. And other factors can't be controlled, such as your sex. Risk factors for lung cancer include: * Smoking. Smoking remains the greatest risk factor for lung cancer. Your risk of lung cancer increases with the number of cigarettes you smoke each day and the number of years you have smoked. Quitting at any age can significantly lower your risk of developing lung cancer. * Exposure to secondhand smoke. Even if you don't smoke, your risk of lung cancer increases if you're exposed to secondhand smoke. * Exposure to radon gas. Radon is produced by the natural breakdown of uranium in soil, rock and water that eventually becomes part of the air you breathe. Unsafe levels of radon can accumulate in any building, including homes. Radon testing can determine whether levels are safe. * Exposure to asbestos and other chemicals. Workplace exposure to asbestos and other substances known to cause cancer — such as arsenic, chromium, nickel and tar — also can increase your risk of developing lung cancer, especially if you're a smoker. * Family history of lung cancer. People with a parent, sibling or other first-degree relative with lung cancer have an increased risk of the disease. * Excessive alcohol use. Drinking more than a moderate amount of alcohol — no more than one drink a day for women or two drinks a day for men — may increase your risk of lung cancer. * Certain lung diseases. People with certain lung diseases, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, may have an increased risk of lung cancer.

My grandmother had and died from lung cancer and she just had a nasty, pneumonia-like ( but worse ), cough and extreme shortness a breath for a few months. She let it go for a long time because cancer never crossed her mind, but sure enough - she eventually went and got a chest x-ray and it showed a mass. ): I miss her.

There is a "cure" for certain types of cancers found in the blood. The cure would be different for each type of cancer. Cancer is very variable in its cellular makeup.

How come there never has been a link found between lung cancer and marijuana

How come there never has been a link found between lung cancer and marijuana?
But tobacco is legal and it kills millions of people each year?
Law & Ethics - 9 Answers

There's more carcinogens found in weed smoke than tobacco. It also tars your lungs a lot quicker since there is no method of filtration.
2 :
Surely there is a link between inhaling any concentrated smoke, and lung cancer...but marijuana has many more apparent effects...and smoking regularly, and in enough quantity to give you cancer, will likely cause you other difficulties first.
3 :
how many people do you think you could round up for the mary jane study given that they'd all need to smoke at least six joints a day for 20 years in order to validate the study? Man ... they'd be so stoned that they'd never get any work done. No work equals no income, at least where I live. Get a grip, dude.
4 :
There has been... A joint is basically like smoking seven cigarettes at once.
5 :
there probity are , dope puts more tar into your lungs that's indisputable . but our laws are so upside down it makes you feel like your Alice looking through the mirror.. from a looooooooooooooonnng time pot head glen i doubt that with all the extra chemicals they put in cigarettes
6 :
there is a link it is just hippies refuse to believe the studies because they were all done by the government and big business (you know the MAN) when you go to college you'll learn about the man and how he is trying to bring us all down man
7 :
Of course there is a link, and there's plenty of research to support that. What rock have you been living under?
8 :
Tobbacco has additives from the supplier that gives off lung cancer, if you took tobbacco straight from the field, dried it out and smoked it you wouldnt get lung cancer.
9 :
There's no point in proving marijuana to be carcinogenic. There's no one to sue; it's illegal.
