I presume you are in USA. Do you have a mother still alive? Who is your guardian? What happened to his estate? We need a lot more info.
2 :
Hello. Yes, you can. Your mother, or whoever handled his estate should have looked into that. You can call the social security office, and i'm sure they will tell you what you need to do. Good luck.
3 :
Just call your local Social Security office and they will assist you in getting the ball rolling . You are entitled to this until your 18th b-day.

Have lung cancer incidence decreased since people begun to smoke much less than years before

Have lung cancer incidence decreased since people begun to smoke much less than years before?
If we consider, number of smokers/1000 people you will find that 25 or 30 years ago, people used to smoke much more than nowadays. Why Health Authorities never publish figures showing a decrease in the lung cancer incidence, if any.

they have not posted any because their has not been a big drop oh their has been drop but nothing of note haven't you heard everything causes some from of cancer
2 :
i just read an article not sure in what but they were giving figures that in the last couple of years the numbers have went down with fewer people smoking.
3 :
I hope so
4 :
I was on a debate a few days ago on this very topic. I feel its the awareness that has brought about the change and the awareness has come around with a lot of campaigns against smoking on TV and other media. Cigarette Companies are no longer invited to sponser sports or the atheletes to wear their logos. There has been a huge hue and cry about the problems related to smoking and one can actually see and read about it. This was not so say even about 15 years ago. Its not that there was not awareness - but it was not pushed so much. Cigarette companies ruled almost everything that was connected to our lives.
5 :
No stats because they don't want you to know that one of the main causes of cancer is vaccination.

can lung cancer be beaten? Does it always have to mean terminal or can people zap it away with kemotherapy

can lung cancer be beaten? Does it always have to mean terminal or can people zap it away with kemotherapy?
thank you all so far... it's my dad. We just found out. He also has emphasima so they can not operate. All they can do is radiation. I have been researching. They say small cell is worse, but small cell can be also be beaten without operation - it can be beaten with radiation alone. Maybe they caught it in time and they can get rid of it, no?

1 :
It depends on the type. Certain types of cancer can be operated on, and there is a 25% chance of survival. Yes, they can use chemotherapy and radiation. It can be beaten.
2 :
Medicine has been able to save some from lung cancer since the 1950's. Most lung cancers are very bad but more and more are saved daily. Early detection is the key. Prevention is the lock.
3 :
kemotherapy is actually pretty risky what it does is a chemical put into the point of the cancer and it is made to destroy the cancer cells but it can't tell whats good cells and whats bad cells so basically it tries to kill every cell in the area injected and pushes you to the point of not dead in the hopes your new cells will grow back right... if not it failed so no it doesn't just zap it away... and cancer needs to be actually taken out of the system because its basically a mutation that makes the cells function improperly so chances are even if you could get rid of it your lungs would never be the same
4 :
You can't just "zap it away" but it can be beat. There are lots of treatments for it now and it doesn't have to be a death sentence. If you have it, fight it and don't let it beat you.
5 :
They tell my family early detection is the best . My dad had lung cancer and had his left lobe removed, and he didn't have to go thru any treatment just gets to be watched by his surgeon.. So depends on how long they had cancer before it was detected..
6 :
hello billy.. try this stuff and search for the 38 reasons. see my website " jojofernandez.freelife.com " i have tried this to friends the same case as your dad or even worse. i got a 4th stage lung cancer friend who have drink this juice and able to take 5 bottles. surprisingly now he does have only pelm in his lung.for more info and assistance you may need please email me " peoples_charity99@yahoo.com ". the product has germinum and selenum which fights and kills cancern cells.
7 :
It depends on how far it has progressed. I have two relatives who have beaten it though. So far, neither of them have had a recurrence.
8 :
I think the cure rate for lung cancer has a lot to do with how fast they catch it. It is no longer a death sentence.
9 :
Hiyah hun. Ill be completely honest with you. In his current state, with emphysema as well, i dont think your dad will get better, especially seeing as they cant operate. But i know that they can prolong his life and make him comfortable at home surrounded with the ones he loves... Chemotherapy and radiotherapy make this happen. Dont lose faith. You never know if a miracle might happen. All the best hun xxx
10 :
There is always room for miracles especially with cancers. But lung cancer with emphesema is a very tough diagnosis. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.
11 :
The thing about lung cancer is most often symptoms do not appear until in the later stages. My mom was diagnosed with non-small cell cancer stage iv, and she did chemo and radiation for about 1 1/2-2 years. She died 2 1/2 years after diagnosis. Sorry about your dad. I hope the outcome is better.
12 :
well yes its beatable and treatable with a combination of both chemotherapy and radiation. what stage is he in? how old is he? this all counts. i beat lung cancer, i had to have the mass in my lung taken out through surgery along with chemotherapy. i'm a year in remission now. you can opt for either or, radiation or chemo or both, i chose chemotherapy. it's a grooling process though. He will get extremely sick and his hair may fall out depending on the treatment. The point is is curable. get the bst dr. and second to third opinions and Good Luck.

How long does it take to develop lung cancer from smoking

How long does it take to develop lung cancer from smoking?

There are so many variables. Tendency, genetically for cancer, the amount you smoke, what brands (the higher the tar level the higher the chance) Eventually all people that smoke will develop lung disease, COPD, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, asthma and of course cancer. Best not to even start, but if you are a smoker, as am I then quiting is the best hope, lungs respond very quickly and heal nicely, but quiting is so so so difficult. I have been trying to quit for 3 years, but always seem to fail after a short period of time. I truly wish I had never started. Good luck

ten minutes to 40 years depending upon about 10,000 different things. Just in case consider this - 9 - Try Vitamin C therapy. A few years ago a cancer specialist came out with a paper that said the best cancer/infection fighter found to date was Interferon. At the time it was $15,000 a gram. The paper also said that Interferon was a by-product of the natural breakdown of Vitamin C in your body. Shortly after that the FDA tried to make Vitamin C by prescription only. Guess why? 33 The FDA has the RDA for Vitamin C set at 64 mg a day, just enough to ward off scurvy. Linus Pauling, who got a Nobel Prize for his work with Vitamin C and a second Nobel Prize for Organic Chemistry, said that 1000 mg a day should be the minimum and 2000 mg a day if you are sick or smoke. He played tennis almost daily until the day he died at 96. Personally, I got sick twice a year for 2 weeks at a time, for more than 20 years, with something to this day the doctors have no idea what it was, but for a week in the middle of those 2 weeks I was flat on my back. I started Vitamin C therapy once I gave up on the doctors. 34 I took enough to be asymptomatic for those 2 weeks. Too much and I got diarrhea and too little and I got sick. Within a narrow range, and it followed a bell curve over those 2 weeks, I was not sick. (If you find this useful, copy it and give it to a friend. Somebody got to Yahoo and they delete this as soon as they find it) At the height I was taking 40,000 mg a day and 300,000 over the 2 weeks. After 2 years of that I have not been sick since รข€“ more than 15 years. Vitamin C acts as a natural diuretic so you need to drink a lot of water and watch your body in total, but my kidneys did not dissolve as the doctors predicted, or get massive kidney stones as other predicted. 35 I did not dissolve my bones as some predicted or completely calcify my joints as others predicted. I had no side effects at all. It might be something to consider.
3 :
There's no definitive timeline or guarantee that you will get lung cancer from smoking. True, smoking is a definite cause of lung cancer, and is an AVOIDABLE risk, so don't take chances and just stay the h*ll away from that disgusting stuff!

Apparently Dr can hear a difference in your lung sound before you even notice symptoms. If you have symptoms of something that is not normal for you, see a Dr and get a diagnosis, don't try to self diagnose, you may find your symptoms don't fit cancer, but that won't mean you have nothing that needs treatment.
2 :
try this link see if it helps http://www.webmd.com/lung-cancer/tc/lung-cancer-symptoms http://www.emedicinehealth.com/lung_cancer/page3_em.htm
3 :
It is impossible to diagnose yourself. The symptoms of the most common lung cancers are non-productive or changing cough, hoarseness, hemoptysis, anorexia, weight loss, dyspnea, unresolving pneumonias and chest wall pain.
4 :
A cough that wouldn't go away was my only symptom before being dx'd with stage iv lung cancer. The only way you can tell for sure is by getting xrays, or better yet, a CT scan.
5 :
I have your answer I reviewed google, yahoo and alexa and found this check it out http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/749/1215breastcancer2copycoy.jpg I will check it out good luck!

I don't have to google anything, I know. there are very different symptoms, as I had 3 brother who died of lung cancer. They all smoked quite heavy. all of them always coughing especially in the mornings. As they grew older their stamina declined, their breathing became shallow. One gave up smoking 4.5 years prior to his death, age 54. He had pains at the back of his leg, and was treated for sciatica. (for ages). But by then the lung cancer had gone to the bones. The second one aged 63 died quite quickly, except an awful cough and loosing lots of weight he had no other symptoms. the 3rd die aged 74 a slow death with Oxygen to help him breath. They all lived otherwise a healthy life and were in lots of fresh air. They all were breathing very badly towards their end and none of them could have been saved with operations, Chemo Therapy or Radiation. A 4 brother stopped smoking 5 years ago, he too is on Oxygen day and night, and probably wont see the year out. My last and 5th brother never smoked and he is 68 but his health is of a 45 year old. my sister never smoked age 78 is still very healthy. Now me, I am not proud to say that I only gave up the fags a few years ago, and since then my breathing capacity has improved greatly. So I just pray, that God keeps me healthy for many more years. Good luck to you too

How possible is it to get Lung cancer from smoking heavily for 1 year at age 18-19

How possible is it to get Lung cancer from smoking heavily for 1 year at age 18-19?
Lung Cancer, Smoking, Tobacco, Cigarettes

1 :
Not everyone will but it is very possible.
2 :
It is very possible
3 :
it depends what is meant by heavily ..but i doubt it..it is also important to note that there is still only a correlation between smoking and lung cancer..we cannot say for sure that it is a causation
4 :
It's improbable. Chances are, as a smoker, you've been exposed for much longer than you yourself has been smoking. If people around you have smoked for many years, you may be more susceptible thanks to second hand smoke. Don't take any chances, though. Be sure to get checked out.
5 :
possible but my grandfather has een smoking 2-3 packs a day for 64 years and hacks up black stuff but no lung cancer id suggest you stop he coughs all the time and walking is very tiring to him
6 :
Not normally to be expected unless your diet has been most unusually bad.A good diet contains a fair amount of raw fruits and vegetables. A very bad diet contains almost totally cooked refined over sugared, salted greased food and scarcely any nutrition.
7 :
let me put it this way... my dad smoked for a few months (not very heavily), but after i was born he decided to stop. he went to the doctor about 10 years after he stoped and he was checking his lungs and he goes "you used to smoke, right?" it was 10 years after he smoke for a few months and the doctor could still tell he smoked... how likely? VERY likely, your best bet, stop smoking NOW before its too late. my grandfather is very sick from his lungs for smoking and he has to be with oxigen contantly or he cant breath.... seriously, the best thing you can do is to stop right now.
8 :
It is very possible, If you think you might have , then get checked out immediately. Cancer is not a respecter of people, it can happen to anyone. If someone is coughing up "black stuff" something is wrong that is not normal!! Smoking can cause other cancers than lung. Also other things besides smoking can cause lung cancer. GET INFORMED
9 :
Cancer is a result of DNA signatures that you cannot control, that are being amplified by external influences like cig' smoke, asbestos, and evolution. You obviously can't control evolution, but you can clearly control your contact with asbestos and cig' smoke. Outside-infuences, even down to deodorant, can affect the encouragement of problems-due-to-DNA-processing-inadequacies. No person is immune, no matter how careful you are. But, PLENTY of folks are magnifying the probability through smoking and other actions. Just stop now. We all know it causes it, and has caused more deaths than all of the wars combined, each year! Cancer can creep up in other parts of the body for other reasons too. No need to roll the dice and toss tobacco-use into the chances.
10 :
Not likely at all. I wouldn't worry about it.
11 :
not everybody's bodies react the same to chemicals that why some can take a certain drug with no effects and others cant also its a genetic thing if your family has a history of cancer it is very possible ps i have cared for many people with lung cancer its a horrible painful way to die
12 :
With out getting to involved in the politics of smoking let me put your answer in a way that you'll get to answer your own question. Based on the way you worded your question, I'm assuming the question your asking, simply put, is what are the odds of your getting cancer after only have smoked for a year. OK, here goes. What do you think the odds of the airoplane your a passenger in, flying from your local airport to anywhere in Europe, of crashing would be? Well, what'a ya think? Low,eh. What's that? Wad ya say? "Very low". I agree. In fact, in my opinion? Even lower than that. Don't worry about it. Under the circumstance, I'd even go so far as to say, the stress of worring about it would kill you quicker.
13 :
likely, especially since your so young, your body is still developing and you are already destroying it by smoking, not only you're at risk for lung cancer, you're also at risk for emphysema, throat cancer, mouth cancer, heart attack, etc. Maybe not now, but a few years from now.......yes, some people do smoke and live long, but it's just a small percentage of very lucky people. Do you want to gamble with your health and even life and see if you are one of them?
14 :
theres always that possibility...everyone is different on wether or not they will find out they have some type of cancer.....

15 :
Unlikely, but 10% or so of patients who get lung cancer never smoked at all.

Smoking a pipe with good pipe tobacco, is least likely to give you cancer. Pipe smokers don't inhale like cigarette smokers do.
