What is the chance that radiation alone will cure lung cancer?
Operation is out of the question. Chemo will not work in the two spots it is in. This is not for myself.

Like any type of treatment its risky, chemo would be the better choice. I don't wanna kill your hopes, but lung cancer is one of the more serious cancers. It claimed my grandfather, he was a fighter though. Do the radiation, and prayer might help too.

If it is non-surgical, chemo and radiation is typically standard, and even that is spotty. Radiation alone practically does not offer a great prognosis, largely because most lung cancers are slow-growing and resistant to chemo/radiation because they are very slow-growing (thus similar to the body's cells). The best thing to do is just not lose hope, because sometimes that's all you have. My mom just had adenocarcinoma removed from her colon, and is currently going through chemo. I will keep your loved one in my thoughts and prayers.

My son-in-law is the chief physicist at a major cancer center and there they have very up to date equipment that can direct radiation to the exact spots so as not to destroy healthy cells as the old types use to do. With radiation plus the medication then perhaps that will give the patient some extra special time.....God Bless

Avoid drinking acid liquids and drink milk.

Agree with the above. Also: Narcotics are frequently required as pain is severe many times. Diflucan or nystatin (antifungal therapies) are required if secondary fungal infection. Carafate suspension can provide some relief, as can the various miracle or magic mouthwashes. Blessings

How do you deal with Lung Cancer and not knowing when she will go

How do you deal with Lung Cancer and not knowing when she will go?
My aunt is still in the hospital cause her kidney's failed and we are not sure how long she will make it. I am not sure how to act around people cause everytime i think about her, it makes me sad. I don't want to hide from people or make them think i am sad. but it is a really long story and if you guys understand, please tell me what i can do to cope with this. thanks so much!!

Micki, everyone else around you knows what's going on, so go ahead and be sad. Around your aunt, talk about pleasant times the two of you have shared. Tell her how much you love her. Tell her everything you have ever wanted to. Lung cancer generally kills quickly--my mother went from diagnosed in June 93 to dead Sept 93 (in fact, tomorrow will be 14 years). Your aunt knows, even if she doesn't admit, she's dying, and she will be grateful to know she's left you with memories of good times, and maybe even a role model. It will take a lot of time to get over your grief, but if you do some research on Death and Dying and the stages of grief, that will help. Your close friends know what you're going through--hang with them because you don't have to explain anything. Sending you healing energy and clear strength.

The best thing is to put your best face forward,I know it hurts but everyone who knows you also knows you are hurting. Sorry your aunt is in this condition , she needs all the support and prayers available at this time-you have mine !! Yes, my husband's grandfather. :( My MIL isn't answering her phone but my aunt in law told me. She wasn't clear though as to what they were going to do. It's just strange though, I honestly didn't think it was so bad!

The patient is sedated so they will feel no pain or struggle for breath. Sometimes they die within minutes, other times they will breathe on their own for a day or more. Their respirations will get slower and shallower or erratic and eventually stop. I'm sorry if this is happening to someone you know.
