Will an xray always show lung cancer

Will an xray always show lung cancer?
Are xrays accurate for small tumors or is a CT scan needed to confirm lung cancer?

It is just one way of diagnosing a tumor. Often, once a tumor is found, a CT scan is ordered.
2 :
Hello. They will do an xray first. Then if they see any dark spots on the xray, they will do a Cat Scan.
3 :
Not always. X-rays can definitely catch some tumors, even small ones. However, a CT (or PET scan, etc) would probably be a follow up. Even then there's a very small chance it could be missed either in the picture or with the doctor reading it. No one is perfect, not even doctors.

Can someone please explain to me the disease of Lung Cancer

Can someone please explain to me the disease of Lung Cancer?
I don't fully understand it. I only know it's caused by smoking. So please describe the disease, thank you!

It is impossible to give you an answer that completely explains this disease. For that you will need a book. We do not know what causes lung cancer.
2 :
Lung cancer as with any cancer has numerous risk factors associated with it including poor diet, exposure to asbestos and smoking like you say. There are two different cell types in the lung which can give rise to two very different types of cancers. Squamous cells and Glandular cells Squamous cells in the lung is the most common form of cancer that can be found in the lung. It afftects the squamous cells. Adenocarcinomas are cancers affecting the glandular cells. This type of cancer usually produces lots of mucous. There are four different types of cancers of the lung: Non-small cell carcinoma (large cell carcinoma) Small cell carcinoma Adenocarcinoma Mesothelioma which is usually contracted by asbestos exposure. Symptoms of any of these cancers include: rapid weigh loss persistant cough lung pain blood in sputum I hope this helps x
3 :
Lung cancer is the cancer of the lungs. There are several different types, but first you should know what cancer is. You have genes called Oncogenes. When exposed to carcinogens (cancer causing chemicals, and yes, these are in cigarettes) these genes are damaged and repair themselves. After repeated exposure, the oncogenes do not repair and can then cause normal cells to grow abnormally. Cancerous tumors are basically abnormal cells that your body send blood and nutrients to. Basically, your genes (which tell everything how to grow, what to do etc.) have told the affected cells (usually in the area affected by the carcinogen) to grow differently. Eventually these different cells can metastasize and spread throughout the body. If your cancer started in the lung the (for short) mets will be lung cancer mets. I'm not sure on how that part works exactly. So lung cancer is basically cancer of the lungs, as stated before. There are 2 main types of lung cancer, each with their own types. Small Cell lung cancer accounts for about 20% of lung cancer cases. It's mainly caused by smoking. The cells in small cell lung cancer are smaller and are usually made up mainly of the nucleus (control centre) of the cell. This type is usually treated with chemo or radiation. This type of lung cancer is more aggresive and spreads more rapidly. The other type of lung cancer is non-small-cell lung cancer. There are 3 types of non-small cell lung cancer. They are Squamous cell, carcinoma, Adenocarcinoma and large cell carcinoma. These respond in much the same way as each other. Sometimes, doctors can't tell them apart, so they call it undifferentiated carcinoma. Squamous cell carcinoma developes in the cells that line the airways. It is the most common type of lung cancer. Adenocarcinoma also developes in the cells lining the airways but is in the mucus producing glands. (Adeno means gland). Large cell carcinoma is called this because the cells are large and rounded looking. I hope this helped!

I read in a tabloid that Sarah Palin had lung cancer. How would you feel?
Don't get me wrong, I don't believe in anything the tabloid report.

Annnnnd? A lot of people get lung cancer....
2 :
Sick
3 :
ZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
4 :
Is that the same one that said Obama had cancer? And That Michelle was going to adopt a boy baby?
5 :
Unlike you "compassionate" liberals I would be sad for her.
6 :
Dont want anyone to get cancer.
7 :
the radiologist could see her tumors from her house
8 :
Her and Obama both then. I mean, he's likely to get it with his smoking, eh? Maybe they'll share a spot in the cancer ward.
9 :
Wouldn't it be funny if her insurance company dropped her.
10 :
Jeeebus will save her!
11 :
I would wish lung cancer on anyone.
12 :
As a progressive democrat and a human being I would be very sad for her and probably would have tears. I dont want the woman to die, that is absurd. I just would rather her not be the president, but if she does ever get elected I will support her as our President for that is the way I roll.
13 :
Yesterday, you asked the same question re: Barack Obama. This question is equally irrelevant.
14 :
is that why she has that whiney voice?
15 :
I would feel that Sarah Palin should sue the tabloid. I don't like her but no one should be saying false things about her.
16 :
I knew it already, she speaks through her nose
17 :
She would probably go on another whining tour and try to blame the Democrats for picking on her and giving her cancer
18 :
Must have been the NY Times...
19 :
Hmmm, that tabloid was Newsweek, wasn't it? Their not to be taken seriously ,you know that ,don't you?
20 :
I'd wish her well and hope she has health insurance.
21 :
so you felt the need to share this why?
22 :
I'd laugh my a s s off

My 15 year old chow/golden retriever might have lung cancer

My 15 year old chow/golden retriever might have lung cancer?
His blood work came out wonderful, but his chest xrays indicate that he has a mass. The vet thinks its probably cancer, but I've also been treating him for an infection. He's been eating like a horse but he has a bad cough that hasn't improved in the past three days of treatment. I won't put him thru chemo, but is there anything else I can be doing for him?

We hace a 16 year old pit mix with a mass on his throat. We didn't do chemo. It would of been harder on him. We jist let him live his life. He had good days and bad. Once he got were his quality of life was greater than his will to live, we let him go to rainbow bridge.
2 :
Hello and sorry to hear. Don't wanna be doubting a professional, but lung cancers are very rare in dogs. Please go for a second opinion, and preferably by a holistic vet. Best of Luck, don't give up!!!
3 :
If it is cancer, and you don't want to go through chemo (and honestly I cannot blame you for that), the best thing would probably be pain medication. Rimadyl and Etogesic are usually the first choice. With a 15 year old dog, it just doesn't make sense to try to treat the cancer. Just make sure he is comfortable, and be ready to elect for euthanasia when the time comes. If you're doing everything right, keeping him on his pain meds and he still isn't eating or doing the things he loves he has probably given up. At that point it really is most humane to euthanize him. Since primary lung cancer is quite rare, it may be metastasis from another site. The lung is actually a very common site for other cancers to move to. Of course, if it's really an infection, there probably isn't that much to worry about. Good on ya for getting your dog to 15, that's a wonderfully ripe age for a large breed. Best of luck, it's hard to come to terms with stuff like this.
4 :
The most loving thing you can do for your loving companion of 15 years is to not let him linger in pain because you don't wqnt to let him go. If he has cancer, you know he's in pain. Tell him you love him and you'll never forget him and then thank him and give him peace.
5 :
I agree with Tony. There are some herbal remedies that may be helpful. Might be worth checking out. My oldest girl had mammary cancer. She is fine now at 12 years old. I chose not to put her thru Chemo. I listened to a variety of opinions and made a choice the best I could with the info I had. Not to say cancer is cured with herbs; just that it never hurts to be open minded.
6 :
Well in my opinion honestly. The dog is 15 years old he has live probably a wonderful life. i know it is the hardest thing in the world I just had to do it 2 years ago with my Staff. Terrier.(he was 12 and got cancer in the brain and it killed me to put him down but it was either that or put him through chemo and surgery without the guarantee that he would live through the surgery) If he is not suffering right now enjoy him but when he starts to suffer spend a wonderful last couple days with him and end the pain for him. For a little extra you can get him cremated seperate and buy an urn and remember the good times.. I am so sorry i know this will probably kill you to read it. But our dogs never out live us and that is so hard but you gave him a great life...All the best... Take care give doggy hugs.

Factors are the only way to tell, chances are for insurance companies. Starting off with: My father, grandfather and mother are smokers so am I and there is no cancer in the family, the factors that make my genetics different from some one who caught lung cancer from smoking is simple. Genetics, your made of them, im made of them even pets are made out of genes. If you really want to know why people in USA are getting sick with genetic disorders so much more then say, JAPAN or Russia, then why don't you go and research why Dosimeters are illegal to own here, in USA. As long as our government points the finger at some one else, that means they can carry out those same experiments unseen. I strongly suspect 1960-1980 there was a HUGE experiment on the population mainly with Different types of Radiation.
2 :
Good For him...he's one of the lucky ones. My uncle quit 50 years ago, and woke up with Stage 4 Lung Cancer...they gave him 3 months.
3 :
Someone is trippin on something. Another government hoax. I suppose they also did radiation testing on the aliens at Area 51.
4 :
, My spouse and I decided to quit around this time last year as a part of our New Years Resolution. We soon got frustrated after trying niccorret patches and one prescription drug. However, we weren't able to quit the habit until we found a natural way to quit. We bought the Easy Quit System online and learned it was easy to quit once we could control the desire smoke.
5 :
, I was able to kick the habit once I got pregnant with my first son. For me the thought of my child being healthy was enough to make me quit. My husband decided to quit with me and had a much tougher time until he discovered the 'Quit Smoking Today' program. He found that the system was easy to use and that the NLP technology really helped him overcome the addiction.

talk to her Dr..we aren't psychic and not all cancer is alike in all people.
2 :
It all depends how successful her remission is and if the cancer has mestastasized or not. Also, the grade, size, etc. of the tumor.
3 :
Here i s an excellent site with some wonderful options for you. It will definitely help you. Have a look. http://webmd2.notlong.com/AAikdM2
4 :
It's impossible to predict for an individual patient . . however survival of any type of cancer depends on the patients age, type of cancer, grade of tumor, location of tumor, stage at diagnosis, patients overall health, and patients response to first line treatment. There are survivors of lung cancer . . and your mother in law may be one of them. There is always hope. Would recommend that you stay away from 'statistical' information as that does not apply to individual patients . . it is not meant to give a patient no hope for the future . .you have no idea what type of treatments may become available to cancer patients in even a few months . . so statistics should never be used to 'measure' an individuals life span. Suggest that you read 'The Median is NOT the message' by Stephen Jay Gould Gould had mesothelioma and was told by well meaning colleagues, physicians, friends, relatives . . (well meaning terminators) that he only had eight months to live according to the statistics for his disease. He disagreed . . and lived for twenty more years despite his 'grim prognosis'. "Gould's The Median Isn't the Message is the wisest, most humane thing ever written about cancer and statistics. It is the antidote both to those who say that, "the statistics don't matter," and to those who have the unfortunate habit of pronouncing death sentences on patients who face a difficult prognosis. Anyone who researches the medical literature will confront the statistics for their disease. Anyone who reads this will be armed with reason and with hope. Steve Dunn." http://fog.ccsf.edu/~abair/median.pdf
