Any lung cancer survivers out there

Any lung cancer survivers out there?
I have just been told recently by the doctors that I have non small cell lung cancer and am in the 3rd or 4th stage. I need some words of encouragement from people who have won the battle over this terrible cancer. Thank you in advance.

i have not ever had long cancer but i hope that you overcome the disease i really hope you do! just keep fighting!

Yes My Uncle had lung cancer really bad, because of smoking for all these years, and has been living now for about three years after he was diagnoesed and it cleared up really fast. God Bless, Emily :]
3 :
My sister (non-smoker) was diagnosed in 2002 with stage 4 NSCLC. She never did chemo or radiation. She has done Iressa (which you can't get anymore), and that really helped her for about 31/2 years. She then tried Tarceva, which didn't help. She is now on a clinical trial where she takes 6 chemo pills daily. Her health has been very good. The docs told her she had a year to live almost 6 years ago. Find out exactly what kind of cancer you have, if it's spread, what treatment they recommend and what they expect the treatment to do. Get on the internet and research your cancer. That is the MOST important thing to do. Do not leave it all up to the doctors. Mostly they want you to do chemo and that's it. Try holistic methods. Change your eating habits - no sugar, because cancer loves sugar. Really - do a lot of research, and do NOT give up.

I have not had lung cancer, but I want to give you some words of encouragement. Do NOT give up. Do NOT let the "statistics" run your life. I lost my dear father last year to pancreatic cancer. I should say he died WITH pancreatic cancer, not FROM it. He read too much on the Internet about how long he had to live, what was going to happen, etc. and let it go to his head. He gave up and basically lost his mind. PLEASE don't let that happen to you. Your body doesn't have an expiration date on it. No doctor can tell you when you will die. Your life's not in their hands. It's in God's hands. God bless you.

From the moment we are dx'd, we are survivors. But I think you mean are there any survivors that have totally beat lung cancer and are now cancer free. Yes, there are more than you think. I have non small cell, if I listened to the dr's prognosis I would have been dead over a year ago. I was dx'd in May '06.. went thru chemo, it didn't work for me. I finished chemo 14 months ago and have had no further treatment. My cancer is stable right now.. my onc tells me its the natural treatments I am on that is helping me survive. There is a lot to be said of good nutrition.. we really are what we eat!! You can fight this.. I know of people who are now cancer free from lung cancer. If you ever need to talk, feel free to email me directly.

usually lung cancer is diagnosed when it's too late, though I'm not a doctor so my answer can't be counted too much
2 :
my husband died within 6 mths of being diagnosed. He died a horrible death.
3 :
The most people who die of cancer each year die from lung cancer. Less than 30% of people with lung cancer survive 5 years. 90% of people who get lung cancer are smokers - do the Math!
4 :
Don't listen to the negative responses your getting. You can check online at the American Cancer Society, cancer care has come a long way, I was diagnosed Sept. 2007 went through radiation and chemo treatments, kept a very positive attitude, did what I was told to do, changed some of my eating and drinking habits. I love coffee but couldn't drink it during my chemo. It made me feel sick. Herbal teas were great. I don't know what type of lung cancer you need info on, I had non small cell, and was going into the 3rd stage when I was diagnosed. Essiac tea was great too, you can get it at the Health Food stores.

Why have smokers been able to get away with giving other people lung cancer for so long

Why have smokers been able to get away with giving other people lung cancer for so long?
With the new smoking ban in force, smokers are complaining that their human rights are being infringed. What about non-smokers' human rights to not get lung cancer? Passive smoking kills!!!

As a non smoker, I couldn't agree with you more. :)
2 :
Ok, what we have here is one of the oldest and most powerful industries in the U.S. influencing not only public policy but also public opinion. The tobacco companies power and wealth pre-date the Constitution. So...yes, we seem to have a high tolerance for smokers. That is because big tobacco has thrown so much money at our politicians. This is a symptom of the bigger disease. Your question might be better phrased like this: "Why do Americans allow wealthy special interests and corrupt politicians to dictate how they will live?"
3 :
I dont know. Why dont you get down off your soap box and learn about it from the begining before you start judging peoples motives? (Non smoker here by the way....just not interested in joining a mob)

Can spray glue vapor give you lung cancer

Can spray glue vapor give you lung cancer?
8 years ago I inhaled alot of this stuff doing some wood work. I mean ALOT, when we were working spraying 2x4 sized pieces it gets to be bad. I seriously inhaled too much of it, probably a whole cans worth since we used at least 10 cans. I could not find any information about the carcinogenic properties of the vapor.

Any type of glue if inhaled repeatedly can contribute many types of cancer because it enters your bloodstream via your lungs. It can also lead to bronchitis, chronic bronchitis, asthma, and copd.If you are having symptoms it would be best to inform a doctor about this so the can investigate what is going on.

I guess you are a boy/man. Give more details. Age, weight, other illnesses etc... Update: you could have a stress problem, it is not uncommon during adolescence. My advice is to try put some order in your life/schedule for a couple of weeks, avoid coffee, alcohol and energy drinks. Rest, do what you like. If the problems don't go away, you should see a doctor. And don't worry, it's waay far from any cancer :)
2 :
Possibly anxiety, but you should have it checked out to make sure that it isn't a respiratory or heart issue. You don't say how old you are either and why you are concerned about lung cancer (smoker maybe??).
3 :
Idk sounds alot like cancer to me.... :/

How deadly is lung cancer

How deadly is lung cancer?
with treatment can lung cancer be beaten like breast cancer or is it more serious?
Cancer - 6 Answers

1 :
The statistics are grim. Lung cancer is very hard to cure.
2 :
Yes, it can be beaten. It can also be put into remission. My dad wasn't one of the fortunate ones. By the time it was found, it had spread throughout most of his body. Early detection helps.
3 :
My uncle died from lung cancer. It depends on what stage the cancer is at and if you can recover from it. If it is at stage 4, that is consider pretty bad. My cousin has stage 4 breast cancer, even with treatments of radiation and chemo, there is no hope. We will probably lose her this year because the cancer has spread to other parts of her body.
4 :
It depends on how severe the case is. If the Dr. catches it in a fairly early stage, then your chances are a lot higher. And if the tumor is in only one of your lungs it can be removed or you can look for an organ transplant.
5 :
sadly lung cancer is usually discovered way to late to treat. I lost both Mom and dad to lung cancer and it was caught to late for both of them. Mom knew almost 3 years before she dies, Dad less than 4 months. It can also spread very rapidly to lymph nodes or other places, it is not like some knot you can cut out. Sorry
6 :
It depends on the kind and how far progressed. My Mom died after 18 months from small cell lung cancer one tumor. Most die within 2 to 4 months. Good Luck I will pray for you. REMEMBER there is always new treatment available but think of quality of life not quantity. She went into remission for about 6 months. Then it spread to her brain and lived 6 months.

My parents both smoked while I was growing up. Will I get lung cancer

My parents both smoked while I was growing up. Will I get lung cancer?
I smoked as well for a couple years when I was young. I had problems with asthma when I was younger and still get bronchitis at least once every winter.

1 :
yeah you could
2 :
cancer isnt exactly picky...secondhand smoke is a risk, but my grandmother died of lung cancer and never smoked a day in her life
3 :
you do have a higher chance then someone who grew up in a smoke free environment - however you are not garenteed to get cancer just because you grew up around it. And having asthma & getting bronchitis yearly wouldn't factor into getting cancer - if you have a large family history of cancer, speak to a doctor to see how early you should start getting tested.
4 :
My whole generation grew up around chain-smoking parents and everyone I know is still alive and kickin'. I'm not being snarky - it's quite true and it's also true that "they" do not have a clue what secondhand smoke does. Every study you read is simply statistical correlations. Your asthma could have been related to it; it has an equal chance of being unrelated. Asthma is worse than ever today, yet smoking inside around kids is almost non-existent. Clearly, there are multiple and complex factors involved.
5 :
Possible but unlikely. Even the great majority of smokers never develop lung cancer.

What are the causes of lung cancer

What are the causes of lung cancer?
Not what causes it but what are the causes?
Cancer - 1 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Cigarette smoke contains more than 4,000 chemicals, many of which have been identified as causing cancer. A person who smokes more than one pack of cigarettes per day has a risk of developing lung cancer 20-25 times greater than someone who has never smoked. Other causes of lung cancer include the following: Passive smoking, or secondhand smoke, presents another risk for lung cancer. An estimated 3,000 lung cancer deaths occur each year in the U.S. that are attributable to passive smoking. Air pollution from motor vehicles, factories, and other sources probably increase the risk for lung cancer, and many experts believe that prolonged exposure to polluted air is similar to prolonged exposure to passive smoking in terms of risk for developing lung cancer. Asbestos exposure increases the risk of lung cancer by nine times. A combination of asbestos exposure and cigarette smoking raises the risk to as much as 50 times. Another cancer known as mesothelioma (a type of cancer of the pleura or of the lining of the abdominal cavity called the peritoneum) is also strongly associated with exposure to asbestos. Lung diseases, such as tuberculosis (TB) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), also create a risk for lung cancer. A person with COPD has a four to six times greater risk of lung cancer even when
the effect of cigarette smoking is excluded. Radon exposure poses another risk. Certain occupations where exposure to arsenic, chromium, nickel, aromatic hydrocarbons, and ethers occurs may increase the risk of lung cancer.
