I've been smoking 50 years and don't have it.
2 :
YOU WILL BE ALRIGHT .DON'T GO BACK TO SMOKING!
3 :
You could be ultra sensitive and develop it from one cigarette, it totally depends on your body type. And it could develop within years because of that cigarette you puffed, its good you've woken up and stopped abusing your body. Lets hope your not one of those sensitive people, otherwise your lungs should recover over time. Make sure you don't be around smokers, its just as bad as smoking and can be even worse.
4 :
Put your head between your legs and kiss your ass good bye.
5 :
There are cases where people have been smoking for 20-40 years of their life and doesn't develop lung cancer. Than again there are people who have never smoked a single cig and died from lung cancer. The answer to your question is based on medical statistics, and NO the chances of you getting lung cancer from smoking for a month 1/2 is very very very low. However don't start again, because the more you smoke the stats look worse and worse.
6 :
Pretty much the same odds before you smoked. Of all the lung cancer cases reported in the United states, 1 in 2 claim to have never been smokers. That's one of those little statistics that the anti smoking crowd doesn't like to talk about. When they do admit to it, they usually throw out a lie or two about it being as a result of second hand smoke. Well, here's what you should consider about that... The amount of smokers has dropped over the last couple decades. Smoking just plain ain't as popular as it once was. Yet the amount of 'smoking related illnesses' has gone up. Suddenly, they're blaming it on second hand smoke. Which is of course not possible. If second hand smoke was that bad, then the amount of smoking related illnesses would have been higher decades ago when smoking was more popular. No, the truth is smoking is bad for you but it's not to blame for every single bad thing that happens in people's healths. Smokers can be perfectly healthy and non-smokers can be walking lemons. The person who lived the longest in the history of the world, a 122 year old woman was a heavy smoker. Yet one of my neighbors, a non smoker, recently dropped dead of a heart attack at age 36 because his vice (eating fried foods) was more deadly and unhealthy then my vice (breathing in tobacco smoke) and he never took care of his body otherwise. I do take care of mine. I love my body, I also love smoking, and I want to have both for a long long time.

Is there someone who had 3rd stage nsc lung cancer and lived without taking chemo, radiation, or surgury

Is there someone who had 3rd stage nsc lung cancer and lived without taking chemo, radiation, or surgury?
I had 3rd stage non small cell lung cancer. I was diagnosed 11/3/04 and basicly followed Dr.Days 10 step plan for the last 2 1/2 years. Is there someone out there who has survived as I have? I am 56 and am in excellent physical condition.

I don't know anything about Dr. Day, but it has been shown that some people are able to stop cancer by vastly improving their immune system. Actor Dirk Benedict (Battlestar Gallactica-the first one) is an example from the 1980s. The problem is, the method isn't successful enough when compared to many current treatments. I had a distant relative who put his pancreatic cancer into remission for 17 years by switching to what I think is called a macrobiotic diet. Unfortunately, the same cancer returned, but he got an extra 18 years he wouldn't have otherwise had. On the other hand, my Dad's cousin ate a macrobiotic diet for 30 years and still developed a rapidly spreading breast cancer. Surgery was successful for her. Cancer is multicausal, which complicates things as well. I think if it's working for you, keep doing the same thing.

Stage 4 is the most advanced stage, where the cancer has spread. Understandably, the survival statistics are lowest for this stage. Unfortunately, lung cancer is often diagnosed late. Almost half of all those diagnosed with non small cell lung cancer already have stage 4 disease. People diagnosed at this stage are mostly treated with chemotherapy to relieve symptoms. Between 15 and 35 out of every 100 people (15 - 35%) treated for stage 4 lung cancer will be alive a year later. For those not fit enough to have chemotherapy treatment, this figure drops to about 10 out of every 100 people (10%).

i am not an expert but i did have a little brother that had cancer. he had stage i think it was 4 nueroblastoma (im pretty sure it was that stage but for some reason i feel i might be wrong but i think that was it) i just know it is not a good stage to catch the cancer in. he did eventually pass away. :(. i would think that ur situation might not turn out the best way. but do not give up hope. pray. pray. pray. and just be positive around your mother. it could help her very much. dont give up hope.
3 :
Spend as much time as possible with her and value every hug you can get from her and always be positive when around her and stay strong for her sake.
4 :
I think you should tell her that when you see her like that, it's hurting you. Tell her to do this for you and to stay strong, also pray.. PLEASE ! that's the best thing to do . God bless your mom <3
5 :
Hi! Braybray, I am sorry to hear about your mother diagnoise. When you think that there is nothing to be done rememeber God and his angels are watching over your mother. She is not alone, please pray that God will heal her, because he will. Don't let people tell you it's no hope because they are lieing. Don't think negative always positive because thats what the enemy want you to do. I have heard of people in stage 4 cancer and is giving 6 to 9 months and out live healthy people. Read Psalm 23 that is in The Holy Bible. Just be there for your mother go to Doctor appointments spend everyday with her. I love you and God Love Is The Best Love Ever!

I'm SO sorry! My mom just passed away from NSCLC a week ago tonight, and at the end, the last few days of her life, she wasn't eating and she was sleeping a lot. unlike most, however, she was drinking a lot of water & chocolate milk. Her stage 4 lung cancer spread to her spine, and it was COVERED in cancer. Her dr said she was "wall to wall tumors". it's very sad. i'm not going to tell you to "be strong" because I hated hearing that when mom was dying. if you need to cry, let it out. spend as MUCH time with your mom as you can. My mom died, and I was there. I watched her take her last breath. I have no regrets. Several weeks ago, when she was lucid, I was able to have a heart to heart with her & get closure on a lot of things. the following week, she called my dad & sister & I together and she said her goodbyes. shortly after that, she stopped talking, and went into hospice at home. she lasted 2 weeks in hospice. i'm not telling you this to scare you or depress you, but it's a reality. i know what you're going thru, i really do! it sucks! i'm so very sorry for what you're going thru. HUGS!

What percentage of smokers get lung cancer or emphysema

What percentage of smokers get lung cancer or emphysema?
I have looked all over the internet for this information. I know the likelihood of these diseases are increased in smokers, but where can I find the real numbers?

This statistic is elusive. I looked at American Lung Assoc. website and found some statistics surrounding that. Here it goes. about 20% of Americans smoke, that's about 58 million people. There are 438,000 deaths per year directly attributed to smoking. So, less than one percent of smokers die from smoking each year. But that doesn't answer your question. I suspect there is no clear answer.
2 :
It's difficult to gauge, since a 5 pack per day chain smoker and a half pack per day casual smoker are both "lifetime smokers". As a ballpark, 10% for lung cancer, 30% for emphysema.
3 :
Your question entirely overlooks the large numbers of people who have heart attacks, strokes, oral, throat, bladder and stomach cancers that are directly related to cigarette smoking. These numbers add greatly to the misery caused by tobacco addiction. The links below give additional insight into your original question. http://www.cancer.org/docroot/PED/content/PED_10_2X_Smoking_and_Cancer_Mortality_Table.asp http://www.cancer.org/docroot/PED/content/PED_10_2X_Cigarette_Smoking.asp http://www.kintera.org/AutoGen/Contact/ContactUs.asp?ievent=186346&en=krJMKROEKfLGJSNDLfJIJXMHJlISI1OKKgJOL2MMJiKJIUNDIfLLKZMIJkLXJgJ

As I recall ,a non-smoker has a 97% chance they won't get lung cancer. A smoker is twice as likely to get lung cancer, suggesting a 94% chance of not getting lung cancer.
2 :
Male smokers - lifetime risk of lung cancer 1 in 6 Female smokers – risk of lung cancer is 1 in 9 Risk of lung cancer in non-smokers is 1 in 77 Can J Public Health. 1994 Nov-Dec;85(6):385-8. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7895211 More people die from lung cancer than any other type of cancer. In 2004 - lung cancer killed more people than breast cancer, prostate cancer, and colon cancer combined. Lung cancer accounts for at least 31% of all deaths from cancer. Approximately 90% of these could have been prevented if people had not smoked cigarettes. Tobacco addiction is by far the most important risk factor in the development of lung cancer. There are almost 160,000 lung cancer deaths per year attributable to smoking.  (Source:  ACS)

It depends on the tumor. If it is a small one then the chances are very good. And if they are operating then it must not be that bad.
2 :
look don't listen to statistics listen to your doctor he knows how healthy you are the charts don't tell him if he doesn't know to ask the doctor if your that worried
3 :
depends , but is you want it to be even more of a success , you should look up low dose naltrexone and learn all you can about it ! it is saving lives everyday and it is non toxic , and very inexpensive , people are beating late stage cancers with it alone . and along with other therapies. look it up on yahoo , and yahoo groups , its safe , non toxic , it is an prescription being prescribed worldwide , it works , please learn about it , you may just save a life
4 :
Surgery is common type of treatment for precancerous stage & early stage of cancer (stage 1-2). About the success rate, it depends on many factors. The doctor would be the one who can assess the success rate because he knows your dad condition very well. Surgery doesn't guarantee lifetime remission of cancer. Many survivor need to change their way of life by eating healthy food, be positive and avoid stress in their life. It's also important to eat herbs and multivitamins to boost your dad's immune system. Maybe you would like to know more about Typhonium Plus - herbs for cancer. Please browse www.cancerhelps.com Hope the surgery is successful.
5 :
Sorry to hear about your dad. Lung cancer surgery success is determined by the stage of the cancer at the time of surgery. First off, surgery is usually only reserved for NON-small cell lung carcinoma. If it is stage I (has not metastasized to any lymph nodes) then the five year survival rate is around 67%. That may sound pretty bad but you have to take into account that this includes death from all causes in that population (heart disease, stroke, accidents, etc). The actual disease-specific (ie. dying of the original lung cancer) mortality is much better. Stage II disease (involving only the closest lymph nodes to the tumor) is also treated surgically but usually chemotherapy with or without radiation therapy after surgery is highly recommended to treat any residual tumor. The five-year mortality with stage II drops off to around 48%. Stage III and IV are generally treated only with chemotherapy/radiation and respective five year mortality is 35% for stage III and 5% for stage IV disease. The other thing to remember is that the risk factors that created the first cancer (cigarette smoking, etc) do not completely go away and can cause more cancers down the road. Surveillance after surgery is very important to detect these. If he is still smoking then, for the love of God he must stop now. My staistics may be slightly off but can be easily found via web search and on sites such as the american lung association, NIH,NCI and NCCP sites. I wish him the very best of luck and a speedy recovery

Anyone have experience with small cell lung cancer

Anyone have experience with small cell lung cancer?
Our cousin was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer and it had already spread to the brain. She went through radiation but refused chemo. I think she did take some sort of pill for chemo... its hard to say because everyone is so secretive. After the radiation they found no trace of cancer in the brain and the lung cancer was shrinking (3 months ago). Now- the cancer is back in three parts of the brain and she has lumps on her neck and back. She is now going to go with the chemo and she is in a lot of pain. Can someone tell me what is most likely going to happen?

We notice that cancer desease is increasing among ppl just like flue
2 :
Small cell lung cancer is the most aggressive type of lung cancer and carries the worst prognosis. The good news is that it responds to both radiotherapy or chemo for periods of time. It sounds like your friend is already taking the new oral chemo available for sclc. http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/pdq/treatment/small-cell-lung/HealthProfessional http://www.emedicine.com/med/topic1336.htm Your friend will have several periods of response to therapy and then the treatments will become less effective as time goes on. Patients who are able are encouraged to enter clinical trials of new drug regimens so that in the future new patients will have more and better treatment options available to them. http://www.cancer.gov/search/ResultsClinicalTrialsAdvanced.aspx?protocolsearchid=3829924 all the best to you and your cousin
