Can smoking hookah cause lung cancer

Can smoking hookah cause lung cancer?
My brother smokes his hookah in his bedroom. Can the smoke and all of the stuff from it cause second hand smoke.

Yes.

You mean cancer from second hand smoke. It's amazing how all the CDC tests that "prove" second hand smoke required the person to be so saturated with second hand smoke that in normal life, the only way to do it would be got to a bar filled with 200 people, where everyone smoked but you, non stop for a month. Should you worry? No. Harvard studies have shown that there are genetic dispositions to cancer. If it runs in your family, you might get it, but like in my family grandfather smoked for 50 years... no problem, I switch over to hookah 10 years ago, but almost 15 years for me no problem. You have a better chance of getting melanoma from the sun than getting cancer from your brother's hookah.
4 :
shisha (wut is wut ur supposed to put in hookah) is flavoured tobacco with molasses added. nd if u get the arabic kind (instead of the indian kind, which is worse) It usually contains 0.05% nicotine, and 0.00% tar. yes they chemically take it out. (i kno wut ur thinking, y not do this with cigarettes?). so no, it will not cause second hand smoke.

Have you known someone that has survived Stage 3A non small cell lung cancer

Have you known someone that has survived Stage 3A non small cell lung cancer?
My mom has adenocarcinoma non small cell, she had her left lobe removed with the tumor and the lympth nodes removed and one was found in the center of her chest to be involved with the cancer. She is recovering very nicely from the surgery and will start her chemo and radiation at the end of the month. I would love to know if anyone has had this or similar stage three cancer and survived longer than the three years that is the norm?

What is different between Asbestos and Lung Cancer

What is different between Asbestos and Lung Cancer?

1 :
Asbestos and Lung Cancer is believed to have a quite close relation. The truth is many percentage of lung cancer case is caused by exposure to asbestos material. One does not have to be in direct contact with asbestos since the fact is a lot of people are suffering from lung cancer because of indirect contact with asbestos.
2 :
Lung cancer is a disease. Asbestos is a substance. Everything about them is different.
3 :
This is a very frequent question we get at mesothelioma.us. The answer is that Asbestos is a type of naturally occurring mineral that has been widely used in the building industry since. Asbestos mineral has been discovered to have poisonous materials in it which cased mesothelioma cancer. So: Asbestos is the mineral that caused Mesothelioma cancer

could dampy room cause lung illnesses like cancer

could dampy room cause lung illnesses like cancer?
my dad had lung cancer died recently he was paraplegic ex smoker and his room was an extension adapted but was dampy mouldy from time to time there would be visible damp in the concers and also i've seen what it does at the back of furniture black spots of damp. cos he was paraplegic he was in the room all the time in bed do you think that the damp would have contributed to the lung cancer?

1 :
There have been suggestions that fungus may be a causal factor, but I don't know how rigorous these studies are. Some are linked with 'alternative medicine' and whilst it would be foolish to dismiss it without looking, it makes it lose credibility. Google the link between cancer and fungus.
2 :
Black mold fungi can cause upper respiratory illnesses. There are anecdotal information that mold can lead to leukemia, but not lung cancer Your father's cancer had nothing to do with dampness. I'm sorry for your loss.
3 :
It's much more likely the smoking contributed to the lung cancer. Fungi can cause other illnesses but not generally cancers.

Would you raither die of lung cancer when your 60 or die in a rest home

Would you raither die of lung cancer when your 60 or die in a rest home?
I quit smoking not cause I wanted too just cause I don't much in the winter but I'll start back spring/summer and I was thinkin mad I'd raither die when I'm 60 then to live so long like my grandma where someone has to change your diaper.. love her to death but she has seen her time.. and time again
Cancer - 12 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
many people die of cancer in a rest /nurseing home with cancer at any age you could still wear a diaper
2 :
Well the older you get the more you realize that 60 ain't so old. So would I rather die with many years in front of me, years of retirement and charity work and spiritual growth? Not really. I'd rather die when I'm old and ready. If you think you wouldn't mind dying of lung cancer, please arrange a visit to a hospital cancer ward, talk to the nurses, take a look at the dying lung patients, and see if you wont mind when you're there. Dying with dementia scares all of us, but research is improving our outlook and we may not have to worry about it so much when we get there. Don't make a decision now, when you're young, about your health that you may regret bitterly later in life.
3 :
I work with people who are actively dying of lung cancer. These people have very very difficult time with breathing, have zero activity tolerance (gets very winded easily), and have a lot of pain issues. These people will end up wearing diapers too. I have seen people who lived into their 90's with a very good quality of life, and people in their 50's with lung cancer who can walk 10 feet to go to the bathroom, or can't sleep due to the pain even though they are on a Dilaudid drip and other narcotics and anti anxiety medication. I have seen this argument by smokers before and it is very short sighted. There last year of your life will be a living hell, your quality of life will be nominal. Even if you did not get lung cancer later in life then there is always COPD and other respiratory problems. GOOD LUCK.
4 :
You should go to a hospital infusion center some time and see what it's like to have lung cancer. Oh yes, and 60 is pretty young these days. The life expectancy is about 77 for healthy adults. That means a lot of people live a good bit longer.
5 :
Honey, I'm too busy fighting brain cancer to worry about how I want to die. I'm too busy trying to live!
6 :
60 is way to young to die. You probably wont even have grand kids. I mean look at 60 year olds these days, the ones who have taken care of themselves look great. By the way, lung cancer is not a pleasant way to go.
7 :
I would rather die in the nursing home, that way I know my daughter will visit me daily and my daughter will get paid for looking after me - she is a senior carer in the nursing home?
8 :
Both my grandmothers lived until they were in their late 90's . . neither of them needed a nursing home . . or diapers . . nor did they have dementia. One grandmother lived with cancer, but she died from natural causes at the age of 96. My other grandmother worked as a house mother at a local college and passed away when she was around 100 (we aren't exactly sure of her birth date). Neither one of them ever smoked, they loved their families, enjoyed life, never drank excessively . . my point here is that you have sterotyped in your mind what it is like to be 'old' . . most old people still feel relatively young and continue to live their lives as robustly as possible. I don't have any relatives in a nursing home, nor do I know anyone who has died there . . most of my elderly relatives still maintain their own homes and are active in their community. Unfortunately . . it must just be in your family . . no matter what your choice will be . . unfortunately people will pity you since you have allowed smoking to control your life.
9 :
What ever, tape me in diapers an let me live. 60 is waaayyyyy to young to go. Diapers are only plastic underwear so its no big deal there. I want to live forever..........lol
10 :
You might also live to 80-90 but with serious lung conditions such as emphysema and chronic bronchitis from smoking. So live a long but healthy life but linger one because our medical science keeps us alive. OR Live a slightly shorter life but one that could be with a decade or more of hardship, pain and discomfort because of smoking. Lingering on and on which trying hard to breath or coughing up your lungs. I would go with the healthier option thank you.
11 :
It depends on the rest home, and the condition of my health. I know people at 50 who've lived too long, but my parents have an assisted living facility (apartments with meals served, that's it), and one lady there is in great health and still smart as a whip--she'll be 100 in June.
12 :
Dude you're going to eat your words if you actually get lung cancer. Wearing a diaper is pretty trivial compared to when your quality of life will be so poor that you may wish for death.

my mum has got lung cancer, stomach cancer and has just had an operation to remove a bit f her big bowel?
and is draning her stomach and there is green stuff coming out of her stomach . Does this mean that it has spreaded to the bowels and how long can she live if she is 75 .

Her doctor will have a better idea on how long she will live than anyone else. However she may live longer by drinking mangosteen juice. Here is a summary of a research abstract, there are more at http://www.mymangosteenresearch.com Garcinone E, a xanthone derivative, has potent cytotoxic effect against the patocellular carcinoma cell lines. Department of Medical Research & Education, Veterans General Hospital, Taipei, ROC. The results showed that one of the xanthone derivatives which could be identified as garcinone E has potent cytotoxic effect (kill cells) on all liver cancer cell lines as well as on the other gastric and lung cancer cell lines included in the screen. The investigators suggested that garcinone E may be potentially useful for the treatment of certain types of cancer.
2 :
No it doesn̢۪t mean it has spread to the bowels. That depends on what the pathologist says. There is no way to even guess at prognosis without knowing the stage of her cancers. You should be directing your questions to her oncologist.
3 :
That's terrible :S
4 :
If your mother just had surgery, then the drainage you observed is a routine part of the recovery process. Drainage tubes are typically removed 3 to 5 days after surgery is completed. They may stay in longer if warranted. Your mother's surgeon and oncologist are in the best position to advise your family on what to expect next, their plan of treatment, and your mom's overall prognosis. Best wishes to you all.

How can my lady Pat live through her new diagnosis of Lung Cancer

How can my lady Pat live through her new diagnosis of Lung Cancer?
She has been diagnosed with Non small cell Broncioalveolar carcinoma in right lung of about 3cm, no lymph node envolvement, probably no matasties in the other lung but cannot be possitive of this. She is a long distance swimmer in the cold ocean so is quite fit and has stopped smoking, which she did only several a day until several months ago. She has been a medical assistant to a good oncologist for many years so her treatment will be good medically. I am only hoping that there are other approaches to hopefullness as the medical ones are not very promissing.

i am a student from india sir, i think you might have heard of an india art of 'YOGA' if the lady you are talking about is not in that criical condition you can come to a place in india called 'HARIDWAR' its situated on the bank of river GANGA in UttarPradesh one of the states of India..there is the Ashram(Dwelling) of Saint RAMDEV who teaches yoga...and cures patients out of life taking diseases through and indian herbal medicinal art called "AYURVEDA".. so if you still have hope come to india and try...best of luck
5 :
It is probably not a good idea to hear about all the "cured" stories because everyone is different....everyone has different comorbid conditions. She needs to focus on her own treatment and do the best she can. She will have to limit her lifestyle and perhaps help mankind by promoting the No Smoking thing. But, hey, she knew better with the smoking thing......she worked for an oncologist....DUH!......there is no excuse for her to have to go through this. She is paying the piper!
6 :
I am so sorry that your lady has had to suffer such a diagnosis. It is a very sad, difficult thing to hear that someone you care about has to fight for her life. From my experience of having child with a very serious lung disease, I can tell you that the best thing you can do is educate yourself on the matter in whatever ways you can. Find out all you can about treatment options, learn who the best doctors are, and just try to stay positive. You need to face the facts of the matter, of course, but keep in mind that improvement is possible, and don't lose sight of that. Help your lady to always live life to the fullest, which in the end will give her a reason to continue to fight. Hang in there, and I wish you and your lady the best of luck.
7 :
These are things that helped my mother when things got bad. Good smelling stuff, oils lotions, lip gloss. A rubber band gun to threaten those who came to draw her blood yet again. (she never used it but she enjoyed threatening them) Prayer (I'm sure many have for your LadyPat) The little things are the big things in life, you've got to make it fun if it's for a week or 100 years. She is lucky to have a caring man, I wish you luck as well
8 :
The best advice I can give you is to think positively. Attend support meetings (there are those for cancer patients, and usually one or two for relatives of cancer patient). She should do things that she enjoys and that help her "destress". If she undergoes chemo and becomes concerned about her appearance, contact the "Look good...feel better" program to see about local meetings. If she works now and is able to continue, she should. Feeling productive can be key for some people. Best of luck!!
9 :
do lots of praying.....and if there was anything either one of you wanted to do....(vacations....skydiving...etc...) do it now, dont keep putting it off. A saying i have always gone by: Live your life like there was no tommorow may god bless her, and gl

I know someone who has got lung cancer

I know someone who has got lung cancer?
She is in the third stage I think, and it has spread to her lymph nodes and is getting them cut out. She will be getting chemotherapy and getting most of one of her lung's cut out, what chance does she have of surviving?

1 :
A lot of the answer to your question depends on the success of the surgery. If the info you have provided is accurate, and the surgery is successful, the survival could be described in years rather than in months. But you really need to talk to the doctor to get a diagnosis. And Absolutely no one can tell how long another person will live, No one.
2 :
she might be ok if she does not have any underlying problems such as heart problems, copd, ect. I recently had a family member die from lung cancer from smoking. it was stage 3 b in both lungs and lymph nodes. But due to his heart problems and copd he was not a surgial candidate and heart was too weak from chemo. But if it is not in both lungs and she is in generally good health and does not smoke she has a good chance with treatment

My uncle had the same thing and he's here today! keep the faith and hope up!

Does anyone have (or know anyone with) stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer? How long did they live

Does anyone have (or know anyone with) stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer? How long did they live?
My father was diagnosed in April. I'm curious to know how long others out there with this disease survived and how their quality of life is. Thanks.

Non-small cell cancer can spread through the lymphatic system and through the blood. It can directly invade also to involve the center of the chest (mediastinum), the lining of the chest, the ribs or, if it is in the top part of the lung, the nerves and blood vessels leading into the arm. When non-small cell lung cancer enters the bloodstream, it can spread to distant sites such as the liver, bones, brain and other places in the lung..........The cancer has spread to distant sites plus the following if the tumor has spread: Severe headaches Double vision Pain in bones, chest, abdomen, neck or arms Physical examination: enlarged liver or other abdominal mass Bone scan or bone biopsy CT scan of liver or adrenal glands liver biopsy PET, CT or MRI scans of the brain Chemotherapy: Platinum drug combined with Taxol, Taxotere, Gemzar or Navelbine appear to be more effective than simple palliative care. Additionally, they may relieve symptoms and reduce tumor size 5 year: less than 5% ........you should have asked the doctor..........
2 :
Sorry to hear that yr Dad had this type of lung cancer!! Hope he does not smoke anymore. In any case NSCLC has about a 5-7 years survival rate as it tends to spread via the lymphatic system. The cancer can lead to mucus production (gray, dense, firm) and be careful from pneumonia as a complication. God bless!
3 :
thats what i had im 5 yrs into recovery im very lucky to be alive. Im not sure about what stage i was in but they did not hesitate taking my right lung out. im pretty sure that is was stage 4.
4 :
first of all let me say that you are in my thoughts.... I have know three people with lung cancer. One of them lived over three years after the initial diagnosis and eventually died of heart failure, non related to cancer at all. Another lady I knew lived only 3 months, but hers was not just localized to her lung, it was throughout her body. The other lady I knew lived several years, about 5 and she did die after a long hard battle with cancer. Just remember that your dad is not these people and treatment can slow down and even stop the process.
5 :
Treatment of stage IV non-small cell lung cancer may include the following: External radiation therapy as palliative therapy , to relieve pain and other symptoms and improve the quality of life . Chemotherapy . Laser therapy and/or internal radiation therapy . Clinical trials of chemotherapy. Clinical trials of biologic therapy . Please look into the biologic it is like a immunization that helps your body fight the cancer and I have been hearing it is promising
6 :
I think non small cell is better than small cell lung cancer my mom had small cell and she did chemo and radiation and lived for a year after her diagnoses.
7 :
My husband,44, had 50% of right lung removed 3 yrs ago on Aug.12th, officially diagnosed with stage 4 non-small cell, did a clinical trial chemo program. His problems actually began in June that year ( that's ANOTHER story!). The "suspicious" mass on his lung wasn't discovered until late July. It started to spread to his brain, opted for radiation,(he was afraid of becoming a "vegatable") He passed Nov.22nd that year, 4 days after last radiation treatment. Hospice had come in 2 days earlier. Docs warned him the radiation will "make him or break him",he said "whatever it takes for it not to go to my brain". There were good days and bad. We made it to Maine in Oct. for my best friends wedding. He insisted on going,it was between treatments. In the end he was still talking to everyone around him, said his good-byes to a host of friends and family that came by. Asked for our pastor. I finally had to tell him it was OK to let go,kids and I would be OK. 3 months, 10 days. We don't really know how long he actually had it, never had common symptoms.

2 :
yes he can be...and you can be at risk too from second hand smoke
3 :
Yes, everyday he does not smoke the risk decreased, but the risk never completely gets eliminated. Also what kind of work environment does he go to everyday... factory worker, coal mine etc, the environment he works in along with smoking is a major issue. Does he hang out in areas (bowling alleys, bars etc) were there is smoke in the air... second hand smoke is a big risk factor for developing lung ca

Since they dont know how she got this cancer my next question would be, how is her diet? Most of us fail to see the connection between diet and disease, esp cancer. We all are fighting cancer but its when it gets out of control that we are in trouble. Our immune system does it for us. Someone needs to read some great books on cancer and nutrition.

I am not saying that I know of anyone whom has beaten stage four lung cancer, I can introduce you to someone who has more knowledge then me on a product that is getting amazing results from people from cancer to being paralyzed, I am not promising you a cure. contact Gail or Sam Remstedt at g.remstedt@att.net and ask for more information. They do have some testimonies of people who do have lung cancer, i do not know how far advanced, but like i said what have you got to lose. This is my sister, and brother in law. i suffer from SLE lupus and fibromyalgia, along with 5 other debilitating ailments. My sister put me on this product and with in a few days i had more energy, after a few weeks I felt better then I had in months, maybe years. All I can say is that I am amazed and grateful that my sister cared enough to try to find a way to help me feel better and then she made it a way of life for her and her family and would love nothing more then to help anyone they can. If you have an emergency and are looking for some hope you may call them at 541-353-2323 let them tell you more. All I can testify to is that I feel better then I ever have and now my family is healthier also.I wish you the best of luck and bless your heart. I hope this can help you. Sincerely. S. B.

My mother was diagnosed in December 1999 with Small Cell Lung Cancer and they gave her 6 months to live in the small town we lived in. I would not accept that answer so I took her to Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Tulsa Oklahoma and she lived until March 2003. There is hope but many places actually go at treatment for this too forceful and it causes the patient to get really sick and their white count and red count drops. Make sure if they do chemo that you insist on them getting Neulasta, which will keep the white blood count from dropping and Procrit which will keep her red blood cell count up. I am enclosing a great site for you to view. The most important thing is to keep a positive attitude and realize that God is in control and it is best to take one day at a time. Don't talk statistics but healing.
7 :
Statistics mean nothing. My husband was diagnosed with stage 4 non small cell lung cancer 3 years ago. He was given 3 months to live if he was lucky. The cancer has recently returned to his brain which is how it was discovered 3 years ago. The doctor said as long as we keep on top of it and get the tumors as they show up there is a chance that he can beat it.
8 :
To be honest, lung cancer is a bit tough. But, after losing 4 people to cancer in these last 3 years, I have done alot of research. This is what the medical community doesnt want you to know. Take it and pass it to everybody you know. You can try taking Cesium Chloride with Rubidium. I believe there is also one with DMSO. Its on some natural website made in 2000. I cant put websites here, so you can email me on that. Those are pretty much the two best natural remedies that you can combine to get rid of cancer. Its not a chemo therapy type of drug. Its about $75 dollars a bottle. A bottle lasts you a month. If you have heavy cancer, it will last you about 3 weeks. After taking the natural remedy, you need to eat some bananas or potatoes to replenish yourself with the potassium that you have lost. And, you can also take some Oxygen Drops with this. Cancer cannot survive if there is too much oxygen. What these oxygen drops do is help your body get more oxygen, thus killing any cancer that comes in contact with the extra oxygen. Do eat alot of greens, but I want to warn you of eating foods high in iron. These include but are not limited to broccoli, beef, red beets, etc etc. This is the natural building blocks of cancer. Without iron, it cannot grow. So, cut all iron out of your diet. Um, you should be eating more bran. So, look for bran cereals and brown rice. Thse bind with iron within the body, thus taking out everything that cancer needs. Good luck.

Five hundred years ago, people said the world was flat. Today, people say that if the FDA and AMA haven't blessed something, it can't be real good. Well, here's something I know to be real AND good. It's a little different take on cancer treatment-- In 1990, I had Hodgkin's Lymphoma, stage 3-B, but I've survived. My doctors were great people, but they were limited to surgery, chemo and radiation by profitable AMA treatment policy. During the year in treatment, I started learning about alternative medicine. I'm a retired engineer, and this is what I've pieced together--our IMMUNE SYSTEMS become weakened by poor nutrition, lack of exercise and reduced oxygen. Once that happens, our body becomes vulnerable to common STRESSORS. Stressors can be environmental, like viruses, heavy metals, pesticides, food additives, electromagnetic waves or pollution. They can be internal things like emotional or job stress, or poisonous people in our lives. Aging is also a contributing factor. So this means: WEAK IMMUNE SYSTEM + STRESSORS = DISEASE (cancer, diabetes, heart disease, etc.) Our bodies have 60 trillion--yes, trillion--cells, and there are always some mutating into cancer cells, but a healthy immune system kills them before they have a chance to get a foothold in the body. It takes a LONG time, usually, or a high level of stressors, to weaken the immune system to the point where it won't do its job, but once cancer has formed, it will generally spread rapidly. THIS IS IMPORTANT! There are ways to BEAT cancer that are currently being used in Europe and around the world, and there are some great books on the subject. I know because I've read about 50 of them from cover to cover. Here's a list of the best ones. Some are out of print and getting hard to find-- "The Cure for All Cancers", ISBN 0963632825 "The Cure for All Advanced Cancers", ISBN 1890035165 "A Cancer Therapy", ISBN 0882681052 "Oxygen Therapies", ISBN 0962052701 "Hydrogen Peroxide--Medical Miracle", ISBN 1885236077 "The Natural Cure for Cancer--Germanium", ISBN 0533071410 "Killing Cancer", ISBN 0705000966 "Natural Cures 'They' Don't Want You to Know About", ISBN 0975599518 I know of people whose cancer has 'spontaneously remitted' (WENT AWAY for no known reason) AFTER they went on programs of herbs and nutrition to restart their immune systems. You and your family must look out for yourselves to stand a chance of being healthy. This is not a joke, and I'm not selling anything--just trying to help. I am using the things I learned in those books right now to fight off a second infestation of cancer. I've been at it for over a year now, and think I'm going to make it. Use what works for you, and pass on your success. Best of luck.

What's the symptoms of lung cancer

What's the symptoms of lung cancer?
Is CT scan accurate? How to cure lung cancer permanently? Are there any dangers for a 80 years old man to have any therapy curing lung cancer? Thanks a lot
Cancer - 7 Answers

If the CT scan showed it then yeah they are pretty accurate, I would say physical symptoms would be re-current resp. infections, difficulty in breathing, removing the lung or a lobe may be an alternative but you said the patient is 80, the surgery would probably kill the patient, any surgery at this age is risky, the chances for developing pneumonia is great. and when you are talking about removing a lung that would be devastating, you may opt for chemo and radiation to prolong life but given the patients age, the quality of life will diminish, chemo and radiation make you very weak and sick, have you talked to the person? maybe you can talk to someone from hospice, If it was me or a relative I would try to spend time with them help them prepare and finish up wills etc. when you live to 80 that has been a good life, you may get a couple months or a couple of years, But any doctor that would suggest surgery at this age is only trying to milk medicare out of dollars. I wish you good luck.
2 :
Breathlessness. Actually I don't know about cancer but I do know about Emphysema. Which my dad had. That's caused from smoking, being exposed to burning rubber, for tyres, my dad was a supervisor at Dunlop Tyre Factory - for those in Melbourne - at Montague - and my ex father-in-law smoking and being a cane train driver smelling smoke from the 'Cane Fields' in Mackay, Qld.
3 :
I do not know about the CT Scan, but I do know he can be helped by natural means, but it is not a quick fix, as it took time for him to get the cancer, but there is help. We have helped people who the doctors have given up on. Some of the things you can do is get him right off sugar and sugary, syropy foods. Also off acidity foods, onto alkalade foods. As most people have too much acid in their bodies which breeds the cancer and sugar feeds cancer. You probably got all kinds of chemicals in the house with the cleaning supples, which also can cause cancer. Get in touch with me and I will send you the foods he can have and the ones he should not have.
4 :
Lung cancer is usually found somewhere else before it is found in the lung(s). Often there are no signs until then. Yes a CT scan can tell. The only way to cure it permanently is to beat it. If an 80 year old wishes to fight it then please do. The decision is that persons to make.
5 :
some symptoms are chronic cough, coughing up blood, weight loss, difficulty breathing...ct scans are almost always accurate...there are a lot of dangers at his age in trying to cure it..but the doctor will evaluate him, his currant condition and make the best decision for him.
6 :
General symptoms of lung cancer The symptoms of lung cancer can be Having a cough most of the time A change in a cough you have had for a long time Being short of breath Coughing up phlegm (sputum) with signs of blood in it An ache or pain when breathing or coughing Loss of appetite Fatigue Losing weight Less common symptoms of lung cancer There are other symptoms of lung cancer that are less common. They are usually associated with more advanced lung cancer. You may have A hoarse voice Difficulty swallowing Swelling of the face caused by a blockage of a main blood vessel from the head (SVCO) Swelling in the neck caused by enlarged lymph nodes Pain or discomfort under your ribs on your right side (from the liver) Shortness of breath caused by fluid around the lungs (called pleural effusion) I'm afraid there is no known permanent cure at this time. The dangers should be determined by your doctor and oncologist. Best wishes........
7 :
Take a look at ( http://www.all-about-cancer.us ) There is a lot of good content and information there. Good luck.
8 :
I am not a doctor or nurse, so my answer is only from personal experience. Lung cancer is one of the worst and fastest as far as being terminal. There is no cure(Dear God, I wish there were) I am not knowledgable enough to answer your? about an 80 year old man but I promise to keep him in my prayers.
9 :
From the National Cancer Institute, the 7 warning signs of cancer are-- C- Change in bowel or bladder habits A- A sore that does not heal U- Unusual bleeding or discharge T- Thickening or lump in breast or elsewhere I- Indigestion or Dysphagia (difficult or painful swallowing) O- Obvious change in wart or mole N- Nagging cough or hoarseness Search for answers by looking outside of the medical field, in the area of alternative medicine. There are hundreds of methods to heal the body, and drugs only suppress the issue (not heal it). Most disease issues are internal because the blood carries toxins that accumulate in the body. The system needs to be cleansed (colon and liver especially), and given nutrition. Cleansing the body is a method I've seen done many times with success and it doesn't matter how old you are. We must remove toxins. One strategy is detoxifying with herbs, water, and juice fasting. One must educate oneself. "The Cure for All Cancers", ISBN 0963632825 "The Cure for All Advanced Cancers", ISBN 1890035165 "A Cancer Therapy", ISBN 0882681052 "Oxygen Therapies", ISBN 0962052701 "Hydrogen Peroxide--Medical Miracle", ISBN 1885236077 "The Natural Cure for Cancer--Germanium", ISBN 0533071410 "Killing Cancer", ISBN 0705000966 "Natural Cures 'They' Don't Want You to Know About", ISBN 0975599518 There are many other good books about surviving this disease, and you should know about this option, even if you choose to go the traditional route with it's abysmal prognosis. Best of luck. And watch this--you'll be glad you did. http://www.altcancer.com/vidgal.htm#hoxsey

Just google image seach the words "lung cancer" or "black lungs". It might not make you quit but it will sure scare the hell out of you. I just quit after smoking for over 10 years. The first three days are the hardest. All you have to do is not smoke it really is that simple, even though it's hard as hell. You can do it. You just have to leave whenever someone is smoking around you. If you can make through the first three days I can tell you it gets a lot easier. I still have cravings now and then but only like once a day or so if that. I quit on October 13th of this year. Good luck. You can do it!!!
6 :
Check out the CDC website at http://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/sgr/sgr_2004/sgranimation/flash/index.html It has really nasty images and info about how smoking affects your entire body (including lung photo's). I sent it to my sister a few years ago - and she stopped smoking. Also - you should check out http://smokefree.gov/index.asp for a step-by-step guide to quitting. GOOD LUCK!!!

In the Yahoo search box type in images of lung cancer and you can see quiet a lot of pictures that you could print . The American Lung association have a really nasty picture of a lung .

You should try searching in google.com under image section for emphysema, pancreatic cancer, esophageal cancer and head and neck cancer as well. All these are caused by smoking.
10 :
All you have to do is look at a biology book. I took biology and they showed us a human lung which had smoked a good 10+ years and one that didn't and that preety much helped me. The lung that had belonged to a smoker looked large and mutated it also was brown and grey compared with the pink normal lung that hadn't smoked. You can most likely find some pictures on the internet that will help you. Type in :pictures of smokers lungs

These might help.

About two weeks ago I started taking high blood pressure med, and got this lung infection, but could it be the start of lung cancer? I don't have bleeding, just a weird feeling in left lung, and am taking Z-pack antibiotics for lung thing, it's helping but I wonder if this could also be a precursor to LUNG CANCER, could I have the beginnings of it, no blood yet, but have a few beginning symptoms of it, be honest, could it be BIG C?

Treatment According to Stages Advertising Disclaimer Stage 1 and Stage 2 Surgical resection of the tumor is the principle form of treatment for patients with Stage 1 or Stage 2 lung cancer. If, during surgery, the resected lung margins are found to be close to or involved with the tumor, the physician may recommend additional treatment in the form of radiotherapy (radiation therapy). Radiotherapy is given to reduce the rate of tumor re-growth in the area of the original tumor. If a patient is not medically able to withstand tumor resection, radiotherapy alone may be administered to destroy the tumor tissue. Stage 3 Experts often divide Stage 3 cancer patients into three groups: patients with obvious Stage 3 disease who show abnormal, enlarged lymph nodes on chest x-ray or CT scan; patients with normal-appearing, but cancerous mediastinal lymph nodes that are identified during mediastinoscopy (examination of the chest cavity with an endoscope); and classic Stage 3b patients with tumors of any size and cancerous lymph nodes within the mediastinum and/or the carina (tracheal ridge), hilum ("pit" for entry/exit of vessels within the lungs), upper ribs, or upper collarbone region. The first group of patients—those with abnormal, enlarged lymph nodes—have a high probability of cancer in those nodes. These patients are not considered primary surgical candidates, but they may benefit from a combination treatment plan involving both radiation and chemotherapy. Research suggests that concurrent treatment produces better response rates than sequential (one at a time) treatment; however, patients report more side effects with combined, concurrent radiotherapy and chemotherapy. It is unclear whether or not disease-free or overall survival is improved when surgery is performed after concurrent combination therapy. The second group of patients—those with normal-appearing mediastinal nodes—may undergo surgery for tumor resection. In many of these patients patients, histopathologic examination reveals that the lymph nodes are actually cancerous. Another treatment option is to have preoperative chemotherapy or chemo-radiotherapy and, if a response is seen, to undergo follow-up resection of any remaining tumor. Preoperative therapy should be given if available. Clinical trials may provide helpful forms or therapy for these patients, so the availability of research protocols should be discussed. For more information on the latest clinical trials for lung cancer, visit PDQ®, the National Cancer Institute's comprehensive cancer database. PDQ can be located at www.cancernet.nci.nih.gov. The third group of patients—those with Stage 3b cancer—are not surgical candidates. A combination treatment plan with chemo-radiotherapy should be considered for those who have noncancerous effusion (fluid that is free of cancer cells). Both patient and doctor should decide on the timing of therapy—concurrent or sequential. Patients who have cancerous effusion should consider the benefits of chemotherapy alone compared to no therapy with comfort care. Unfortunately, patients with cancerous effusions often tend to survive only as long as Stage 4 patients (roughly 8 months), despite aggressive therapy. Stage 4 or Recurrent Lung Cancer Patients who have Stage 4 or recurrent lung cancer have the options of chemotherapy alone versus no therapy with comfort care. Clinical findings indicate that treatment for Stage 4 patients can improve overall survival when compared with comfort care only. In addition, chemotherapy may help to relieve symptoms in patients who experience significant symptoms from their disease. Several chemotherapeutic agents are available to patients with Stage 4 disease. These agents include paclitaxel (Taxol®) and carboplatin (Paraplatin®), as well as newer agents such as vinorelbine tartrate (Navelbine®), gemcitabine hydrochloride (Gemzar®), docetaxel (Taxotere®), and combinations of the above with cisplatin (Platinol®). Limited-Stage Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC) The treatment of limited-stage SCLC is very physically demanding. Therefore, the oncology team evaluates each patient's ability to tolerate whole-body therapy (e.g., chemotherapy) and loco-regional therapy with radiation or surgery. If a lung cancer patient is unable to walk at least 50% of the time, and if he or she does not have good function of the liver, kidney, and cardiopulmonary (heart/lung) system, it is unlikely that aggressive treatment can be tolerated. (The death rate from aggressive combinations of chemo-radiotherapy can be as high as 5–8%.) Advertising Disclaimer Patients who have localized disease and are in relatively good health may be good candidates for aggressive combination therapy. Combination therapy may consist of one of several treatment options, including the following: Surgery followed by adjuvant (additional, assisting) chemotherapy when no obvious cancer is present Chemotherapy f

You might want to ask your friend more questions about the type of cancer he claims that he has . . cancer is often age specific and lung cancer is a disease of older adults. Teens and young adults get different types of cancers than older adults . . so you may have misunderstood what he said . . ask him specifically what type of cancer this could be. It's not impossible but just unlikely that he has lung cancer of any stage. ASCO: Types of cancer teens get http://www.cancer.net/patient/Coping/Age-Specific+Information/Cancer+in+Teens In general the answer to your question about stage 2 lung cancer . . yes, it is possible to survive. Much depends on the age of patient, overall health, subtype of disease, and response to treatment.

My brother, a US veteran who was a hard working person who paid all of his bills and worked to feed and nurture his beautiful little son didn't find out he had cancer until it was stage 4. Had he had access to health care he could have been diagnosed early when the disease could have been treated. Conservatives will call people like my brother a 'deadbeat' and say he's 'expendable' like the 45,000 other people just like my brother who die every year because they don't get health care they need when they need it the most. Hate-filled, ignorant conservatives believe anyone can go to any emergency room and get tests, evaluations, treatments any time they want. But that is a ridiculous lie. They say these hateful things because they couldn't care less about other human beings. In 1994, these conservatives killed health care reform, and they also KILLED MY BROTHER. Now, these same kind of conservatives are trying to kill any reforms to the current inept, fraudulent and corrupt health care system. These conservatives are trying to keep killing 45,000 Americans every year just because they don't have access to health care. Why are conservatives so void of empathy, compassion or any positive human trait? Why do they love corporations and unlimited corporate profits over the lives of human beings? My brother was a beautiful person. He give to others all his life. He was a great son and brother. He was a veteran who served his country honorably. But conservatives, who 'say' they are pro troop, did NOTHING to help my brother when he needed help. They even KILLED HIM by killing health care reform in 1994 and they are going to kill 45,000 more Americans every year by killing health care reform today. Isn't it time to stop this madness, greed and ignorance? NO ONE should profit off of the sick and dying. But conservative republicans seem to love to watch people suffer in silence. They are always willing to spend unlimited amounts of money on wars, killing and destroying, but not a penny to help anyone in need, treat the sick or feed the hungry. Just what kind of people are these conservatives? They seem to be absolutely evil. They certainly are opposed to everything Jesus stood for. And if Jesus returned today they would nail him to the cross again, because after all, conservatives even love torture. God help spare us from the evils of these sociopathic conservatives.
5 :
Yes, at stage 2 survival is certainly possible for many types of lung cancer but unfortunately not everyone makes it. You can help him to deal with it by being there for him, helping him to find positive things to do in his everyday life and helping practically when his treatment may knock him back physically. Hope things work out for him.
6 :
no you can't cure Stage 2 cancer *(lungs) its once you have that you are done. sometimes they can get rid of part of the lung and you can live but chances are you will get it again and die. God does exist and he does things for a reason which only he knows yes, he wants this person to be with him and its not for us toask why

My best friend is going on 17. He has Lung Cancer from secondhand smoke, yet he smokes weed :[ Help?
My friend recently told me he has Lung Cancer from secondhand smoke. He also smokes weed as a way of dealing with his problems, and it kills me. I'm desperately trying to get him to stop, but I know drugs can be a tricky thing. Any ideas on how I could get him to stop? He's very stubborn. :[ and is this most likely going to kill him!? I'm so scared. :/

1 :
Well your friend is probably lying to you. Lung cancer at 17 even from someone living with a parent smoker is so rare as to be nearly impossible. You can't get him to stop smoking weed. It has to come from his own motivation if 'having cancer' isn't sufficient motivation, then nothing is. But watch and see... it is most likely untrue that he has lung cancer.
2 :
your friend is full of there is no test for secondhand smoke lung cancer and it would be hard to do weed with lung cancer
3 :
There is no doubt your friend is lying to you so no need to be scared. 17 year olds do not get lung cancer. When young people (under 45 years old) get lung cancer smoking has nothing to do with it. The risk of lung cancer due to secondhand smoke is very small and there is no way to determine the cause.
4 :
Ok just in case he is telling you the truth. Smoking weed will not help his breathing because if you have lung cancer most people have trouble breathing, but it is suppose to help with pain and if he is in alot of pain then maybe that is one of the reason he smokes it.

anyone with lung cancer what do you think of the cause

anyone with lung cancer what do you think of the cause?
anyone with small cell lung cancer my question is how do you feel that cancer started could something recent like a sudden health change, immune system got weaker, emotional distress or anything that could have gave the final push for the cancer to start?

We are a self contained system that will deal abnormalities when we are adequately rested, eating good food and laughing a lot. You are correct in your assertion of the weaker immune system leading to cancer....
2 :
How about smoking as a cause? It contributes to ~80% of lung cancer, though may act in concert with other factors, both acquired (asbestos for example) or hereditary (genetic factors), to increase/magnify the risk. Your immune system doesn't have to be weak to develop cancer, just fooled.
3 :
There could be many mutated cells in the body where cancer might start. The lungs have a greater chance of developing cancer.Thees are the possible reasons (1) The cancer develops quicker in the lungs as the lung cells get more oxygen than the rest of the body and cancer grows better in a more oxygenated part of the human body. (2) We breath in toxic chemicals every day.A lot of theses chemicals are absorbed by the lung cells. There is a greater chance that one or more of theses toxic chemicals may either mutate a lung cell or effect a lung cell to turn into cancer. (3) Some other lung diseases like TB,cystic fibrosis and asthma make contribute to the development of cancer in the lung cell. These diseases weeken the immune systerm in the lung area leaving the lungs open to attack if cancer starts.

If your uncle has either TB or lung cancer (neither caused by alcohol) he will have a chronic and persistant cough). Even a cough may well just indicate tarred lungs rather than diseased ones. Blood in the bathroom could be caused by diseased gums, or nose bleeds. Your uncle should have his blood pressure checked to be on the safe side if he is having persistent nose bleeds. he may just have a weak blood vessel that needs cauterising.
2 :
an x-ray of the chest will help.
3 :
Your first move would be to have him see a physician and have a complete physical done from the results of his test you can know for sure what is causing the nose bleeds.

What are the side effects and warnings for an experimental Cancer treatment called Tarmerac for lung cancer

What are the side effects and warnings for an experimental Cancer treatment called Tarmerac for lung cancer?

Cancer - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
First of all, that's why it's an experimental cancer treatment. They don't know the side effects yet. That only happens when they get people who are willing to take part in the trials. You get the drug for free, then they monitor you carefully for any reaction. That's where the side effects come in. Any and all side effects no matter how bad or not bad they are must be recorded. If they test this drug on say, 100 people and only 1 out of the 100 experiences something strange, it still has to be recorded as a possible side effect. So you probably tried to look this drug up on line and found nothing and you won't, no one will because it is just and experimental treatment right now. This is why they can't even tell the public right now of any possible side effects because the test are not completed. Are you going to take part in this trial?
2 :
If you have been asked to take part in a trial, request the patient information document. In fact you should already have been given a copy. this should contain a list of all known side effects and their frequency. If you are not satisfied, ask the doctor what he knows from the investigator brochure. Also ask him about the side effects of some other standard treatments for a comparison.
