Does my mother have stage IIIA or stage IIIB lung cancer

Does my mother have stage IIIA or stage IIIB lung cancer?
My mother was recently diagnosed with lung cancer (10mm active nodule and 13mm non active nodule, both on the right lung). However, it seems there's fluid around the lungs which could indicate metastasis... how do we confirm which stage of cancer it is; IIIA or IIIB?
Cancer - 1 Answers

It is confirmed by removing the fluid and having a pathologist look at it to see if there are any malignant cells present. If there is it is a stage IIIB, provided there are no distant mets. If there are distant mets then it is a stage IV.

Can air pollution cause lung cancer

Can air pollution cause lung cancer?
A recent report showed that sixty percent of Americans live in areas with unhealthy air pollution levels. Can this cause lung cancer?
Other - Health - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Indeed it can.... There are numerous cities around the world where it is claimed that breathing the air is equivalent to smoking a multitude of cigarettes per day
2 :
yes, but smoking is the easiest way to get lung cancer. This is why some people move away from the busiest parts of America to escape the pollution from cars
3 :
I wouldn't go so far as to say it could cause lung cancer but I do believe it will certainly contribute to the disease.. I suppose it would have to do with exposure over a period of time.. Pollution certainly causes upper respiratory problems ..

is it possible to get lung cancer from smoking black and mild cigars

is it possible to get lung cancer from smoking black and mild cigars?
if it is possible, how much of a chance do i have of getting it compared to smoking cigarettes? are there any chemicals in black and milds like there are in cigarettes? and how much?

1 :
yes, smoking anything can cause lung cancer and other types of cancers.
2 :
yes you can..... a cigar has the amount of about 50 cigarettes..... if u just like the taste then dont inhale just puff, most people do that anyways.... if you MUST inhale then do it seldom.... and be careful
3 :
Of course. It's even possible to develop lung cancer never having smoked a thing in your life.
4 :
Putting anything foreign directly into your lungs can trigger cancer. You must also consider that it could trigger cancer of the lips, tongue, throat . . basically the whole system. No one knows what will cause one person to get the cancer while someone else does not. However, WHO recognizes that people who smoke are at a higher risk for developing some type of cancer than most other people. As unpopular as it is in most circles . . I'd suggest moderation. Just living can be a risk. So, enjoy a good cigar on occasion, just don't make it a habit.
5 :
You bet your boots you can. Smoking is smoking. Anybody that tells you that you are smoking safer is a fool. Do you remember when the cig. co. were saying the samething. They were liars, & so many of us young suckers. Many are now paying the price.
6 :
Yes, taking in tobacco in any form causes cancer!

why do schizophrenia patients develop lung cancer and other problems from smoking less than non schizophrenia?
Ok, doing a very detailed paper on schizophrenia. Found in 2 different sources (as well as by my psych teacher) that Schizophrenia sufferers smoke more, due to a chemical in cigarettes that helps stabilize their delusions, ect. If you happen to know what chemical that is, it'd also be great, but what I really want ot know is WHY schizophrenic patients develop less medical issues from smoking, compared to smokers without schizophrenia? Does anyone know why?
Mental Health - 2 Answers

They smoke non-filters with less chemicals.
2 :
See link below for excerpt about nicotine and it's effect on dopamine, which is the main neurotransmitter system implicated in schizophrenia. I can also confirm that schizophrenics smoke more. I just read that fact last night. I've also including an in-depth study on nicotine dependency amongst schizophrenics.

Can you die of lung cancer that goes untreated

Can you die of lung cancer that goes untreated?
let me clarify... is it guaranteed you'll die from it if left untreated? Im asking because I know someone who is in prison and has lung cancer and it's not being treated.

1 :
Yes unless you die of something else first.
2 :
you can die from any disease that goes untreated
3 :
Definitely!!!
4 :
If it spreads, yes.
5 :
Well... yes....
6 :
PHU! uh... yeah!
7 :
Well it won't get any better. Most people who have lung cancer and get treated die. So if you don't treat it, you'll just die faster.
8 :
Yes. That's Just Like Asking, "Can You Die From Cancer?" My Grandfather Almost Passed From Lung Cancer. But Thankfully,,, He Got Cured.
9 :
sure you can you can die of almost anything
10 :
yes u can die from it! nto unless he goes trough chemo and stuff
11 :
yes, my grandad had lung cancer and had to have the lung removed, this person in prison should be being treated for this and asap.
12 :
Yes. The primary cause of death could be any number of things from suffocation to infection, but ultimatly yes the cancer untreated will kill the person. It is likely not being treated by the person's own choice if they are in the states. It is not legal to deny medical treatment because of incarceration.
13 :
You are looking for comfort, I know it is hard to deal with. My grandpa died from lung cancer that was treated. Lung cancer is the deadliest form of cancer. Very rarely do people with advanced lung cancer survive. Sometimes you hear about people getting transplants or lung removal that saves them, but for most this does not happen. I'm sorry, but it does not sound good. Lung cancer is the worst, and I think you should enjoy your friend while you can. Brutally honest, I'm sorry.
14 :
The biggest percentage of people die of lung cancer whether it's treated or not. If he has non small cell squamous type, treatment won't do much and he's probably weighed the amount of time he's got left against the effects and side effects of chemo (which can make you very sick). He may have decided he doesn't want to spend his last days being nauseous and sick if it's not going to change the outcome in the long run.

By a MRI or. PET scan
2 :
an exray, your team will be keepping an eye on you. Good Luck
3 :
Your Doctor's will order ongoing tests during and in between your chemo treatments. Hope this helps some.. Good luck.
4 :
I am so sorry you have this dreaded disease...With my limited knowledge of cancer. Been in my family a lot, and just the experience with family members and the treatments they have gone through, is to sit tight my friend, have a lot of faith in God and the means available that God has put in these specialist hands for it to work for you. Stage four is very advanced and its going to take many sessions for you to start feeling better, but you will be able to breathe a little more easier, otherwise there is no real way of telling other than waiting it out for your next scan..I truly hope you are going to feel better very soon...Without sounding like a bible puncher, have faith in your Father God, and His will be done.. God Bless and have many healthy years ahead of you.....
5 :
Your doctor will do various exams to see the progress. Xray, and other sorts of Scans of your lungs will determine the effectiveness. Good luck, we are here for you.
6 :
I'm not sure about lung cancer, but my son had multiple abdominal tumors. He was also a stage IV with tumors in the diaphragm, spleen, lymph nodes . . just about everywhere. He responded to chemotherapy within the first month and felt immediate relief. His largest tumor had displaced his heart and moved it upwards. When the tumors began to shrink he felt his heart shift and fall back into place. Which made him feel better. The tumors also had stretched his abdomen, so when they started to shrink he was able to eat more. Generally he just felt much better. So, I think that it depends on the type of tumor involvement you have and the symptoms you've experienced. If the chemo is working you should be feeling an improvement. However, the only way to really tell for sure is to have a PET or CT done. If you have had 4 chemo treatments than you are due for a CT, at least. If this hasn't been scheduled you need to call your doctor. Usually a CT is done by the fourth or sixth week to establish baselines and keep track of progress (or lack of progress). If the CT shows lack of progress they may switch your treatment. Best to you.

How long untill lung cancer

How long untill lung cancer?

1 :
Depends on how often you smoke, and it's more common in the 45+ area iirc
2 :
actually the 1st puff you DO risk cancer so it can be 30 years or 2 weeks both ways its bad, neither are better, sorry but your a dumb ass
3 :
20 years on an average.
4 :
The Ones You Make Are Less Unhealthy Cause The Companies Add Chemicals Like The Menthol You Taste Etc. But The Healthiest Way To Go Is Not To Smoke. =)
5 :
Lung cancer isn't the only cancer you need to worry about getting when you are a smoker. Smoking increases risk for almost all types of cancer. Even though lung cancer often doesn't occur until after age 40 doesn't mean you wouldn't get it at a younger age. You also put yourself at risk for mouth, throat, and esophagal cancer, which could occur within a few years. You start damaging your lungs with your first cigarette. So you are now decreasing your lung capacity, robbing your body of oxygen needed to produce healthy cells, and starting to cause premature wrinkling of your skin. You are also putting yourself at risk for other lung and cardiovascular diseases such as asthma, high blood pressure, stroke, heart attack, emphysema, COPD, chronic bronchitis, and others. These diseases can easily occur at young ages and before age 40. They can also kill. I have several relatives that have suffered from and a few have died from these diseases while they were only in their 20s and 30s. When you smoke, lung cancer isn't your only health worry.
6 :
i say in ur 50's or 60's
