No it's from cigarettes. Everyone would have lung cancer if it was just in the air!
3 :
It can be! But there's other cancers you can get from smoking. My dad ot bladder cancer from smoking. Not even kidding.
4 :
The oxygen you breathe isn't harmful enough to give you lung cancer.
5 :
it is proven that cigarette smoke significantly increases your risk of getting lung cancer, however, it you can get lung cancer from other things, but it is actually a low percentage of people who get it from things other than smoking.
6 :
wow i really don't use this word alot because it is offensive, but in this case i can really say you are retarded.
7 :
def. not like what smoking does to u dont get me wrong it might but smoking it 10x worse!!

i had a job that made me have blood in my stool but when i got laid off the blood went away
9 :
Seeing as the percentage of people who get lung cancer and do not smoke is very small, and the vast majority of people who do get lung cancer do smoke.......duh. Also, as mentioned, it drastically increases chances of other cancers forming (pancreatic (not a good one!) and oral cancer - of which my aunt died from a couple years ago. Yep, she smoked.
10 :
Cigarettes contain arsenic and rat poisoning. Yum!
11 :
I thought beer caused cancer too..geez, all the good things in life are bad. Sprem can cause it too.

Cancer is caused by the government..it's all a big conspiracy. Take the red pill man...

What are different types of conventional treatment for small cell lung cancer

What are different types of conventional treatment for small cell lung cancer?
The patient in particular is around 80 years old, so cannot undergo chemotherapy treatment. So scratch chemo off your lists.

Radiation. That's about it... There are lots of experimental treatments. But in his case, he probably couldn't go thru them...
2 :
There are a few more options: radiotherapy, oral drugs (Tarceva, Iressa...). And here's my real answer. Who's the question for? 1. If you ask it for a patient --> consult a Dr. 2. If you are a the patient --> consult a Dr 3. If you are a med student --> I'd never go see you when you graduate (gosh, putting hw question on a web???) 4. If you are a pharmacy student --> I'll never come to your pharmacy for advice or fill my Rx (same reason) 5. If you are a Dr or Pharmacist --> you should retire 6. If you are just curious for facts --> good for you!

The choice of treatment depends mainly on the type of lung cancer and its stage. People with lung cancer may have surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, targeted therapy, or a combination of treatments Pls click the link http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/wyntk/lung/page9

Do any of you know personally a person who has died from lung cancer

Do any of you know personally a person who has died from lung cancer?
My friend doesn't believe that secondhand smoke(a.k.a. passive or involuntary smoking) causes lung cancer. She said there was no proof that someone has died from second hand smoke and a couple more of my friends say second hand smoke does not cause lung cancer. I was pretty sure it did but i went ahead and researched it anyhow even though all of my childhood I have been told it is bad. From the research I acquired it states second hand smoke does not only increase the chance of lung cancer but also causes many other diseases. A recent study in May 2006 also proved those claims to be true and underestimated. My friend's argument is that the ciggerette smoke doesn't cause lung cancer it just increases the factor, but if it increases the factor doesn't it have chemicals that cause the cells to mutate causing cancer. So if it causes the cells to mutate in a sense it causes lung cancer. If you could tell me of anyone you have known that has died from the effects of 2nd hand smoke. Thanks!

My grandma died of lung cancer.
2 :
My mother died from lung cancer and never smoked and was never around smokers
3 :
Well, I know a few people that has died of lung cancer and they never smoked a day in there life.
4 :
Yes, I do and it has to be one of the nastiest habbits there are. I use to smoke too. It is awful and a real killer!!!! My sister died of cancer and her husband smoked. He even smoked while she was having chemo. some love.
5 :
Yes .....my Godmother.........she had quit smoking at 30 she died at 70!
6 :
Let me guess...your friend must be a SMOKER. You bet your butt they died from second hand smoke. LOTS of them. But there are other causes too. Some people work in factories exposed to carcinogenic (cancer causing) chemicals. Firemen often develop cancers, esp. lung cancer...doesn't take a genius to see why. People exposed to asbestos--lung cancer...paints--lung cancer, coal mining--lung cancer. Everyone who helped at 9/11 evacuate or was around the WTC=lung "abnormalities". Why? Toxic dust. Carbon-monoxide, mechanics=lung cancer. Working in factories wtih starches and glues etc.=lung cancer. Inhaled pesticides, paints etc--lung cancer, welders?=lung cancer. Not just lung cancers either but many other forms...these are just some of the things that would do it. And all you poor folks living in forest fire countries...yep don't be surprised...and the effects likely damage your DNA meaning future kids could suffer the effects of it all where you may or may not. Pass that on to your friend!
7 :
I really don't know. Penn & Teller, who are both non smokers, said second hand smoke is harmeless (On their TV show) But I can't believe breathing in that crap won't do serious damage. Odd thing. My dad smoked for sixty years, UNFILTERED cigarettes, and died with clean lungs
8 :
My grandma died of lung cancer and she smoked.
9 :
there are also people who have smoked for 60 years or more and didn't get cancer. it is the luck of genetics
10 :
2nd hand smoke....now Ive never heard anyone dying from lung cancer from second hand smoke. however my mother in law died from lung cancer. it was very painful. first she had one lung removed, and lived off of one lung. then she passed away.
11 :
My uncle died from it, and my mom is dieing from it now. In this case, both had first hand smoke. Your friend is a complete idiot. Second hand smoke is just as dangerous as first hand smoke. Only the uneducated and ignorant (and smokers) say otherwise.
12 :
Yes a neighbor of mine died from it. I visited her just before she died and from what I saw cancer is not a good way to die. She had shriveled up to just bones basically and had cataracts in her eyes which made it hard for her to see me right next to her.
13 :
ROY CASTLE, he was a musician and T.V presenter in the U.K. he died of lung cancer about 10 years ago and never smoked in his life but he played the trumpet in smokey halls for years and that was the reason he developed it. My grand father died of it to and it is a horrid illness!
14 :
Because developing cancer is a gradual process, it's hard to pinpoint the actual cigarette or smoke inhaled that caused it to develop in a person. Just trust them when they say any smoking can cause cancer. Thousands of people every year die of it. You are just as dead, whatever caused it.
15 :
my sons oncologist had a patient who died of lung cancer , never smoked , did not live with smokers, cancer strikes who and when it wants
16 :
Yes, first the doctors told her that she was totally cancer free but it came back after 6 years, she died of lung cancer .
17 :
My husband was diagnosed March 20th He passed away June 6th. He was a smoker.

What cell type and stage? Is this a primary cancer?
2 :
Lung cancer has one of the lowest survival outcomes of any cancer because over two-thirds of patients are diagnosed at a late stage when curative treatment is not possible.1 Earlier diagnosis and referral to specialist teams would make a significant difference to survival rates. if it was caught early it can be treated..but if it has been there for a long length of time its not good. i hope she will be ok..i will pray for her. im from ireland too btw.
3 :
it can be treated, but is not usually caught early. Hopefully it wont spread to the brain, which it has a high chance of doing, and at that point, it is pretty much a terminal illness. dod your friend smoke, because that a lot of times will cause lung cancer?
4 :
my grandpa just died 6 days ago from lung cancer so not a very high possibility of living and my gramps had cancer for 7 months then died
5 :
What type of lung cancer? What stage? What treatment is she undergoing? The fact that she's 17 is good. It means that she has a better chance of surviving than a 90 year old with the same type. But i dk her chances of surviving, I'd need more information. I'm sorry to hear about this though :(
6 :
find out what kind of lung cancer it is,is she being treated for it? i found out in oct i have lung cancer, they beleive they found it in time,in jan i had my left lower lobe removed,i will be doing 4 treatments of chemo soon,im 42 yrs old, find out what the doctors are telling her,if they found it early her chances are good, hope every thing goes well, take care,
7 :
You really would need more information before anyone can give you an answer. If it has not metastasized and a low stage...and if she doesn't have very many complications...she is still very young and with treatment has a better chance than say someone over 50. Without more details no one is going to be able to give you a better guess.

What are the warning signs of lung cancer and what does it feel like

What are the warning signs of lung cancer and what does it feel like?
Please try to be descriptive. Thank you in advance.

1 :
Warning signs associated with lung cancer include persistent cough, shortness of breath, loss of appetite, weight loss, chest pain, coughing up blood and recurrent bronchitis or pneumonia. Because some of these symptoms may not appear until the disease has advanced, early detection of lung cancer sometimes occurs incidentally during screening, diagnostic or routine x-rays and cat scans.
2 :
very short of breath, even while walking across the room.coughing till you are nauseated, kinda like you have pneumonia, major chest pains when u cough
3 :
a bigger warning sign would be umm if you smoke a pack of butts a day
4 :
Symptoms of lung cancer are varied dependent upon where and how wide-spread the tumor is. A person with lung cancer may have the following kinds of symptoms: No symptoms - In up to 25% of people who get lung cancer, the cancer is first discovered on a routine chest x-ray or CT scan as a solitary small mass sometimes called a coin lesion. These patients with small single masses often report no symptoms of lung cancer at the time it is discovered. Symptoms related to the cancer – The growth of the cancer and invasion of lung tissues and surroundings may interfere with breathing, leading to symptoms such as cough, shortness of breath, wheezing, chest pain, and coughing up blood (hemoptysis). If the cancer has invaded nerves, for example, it may cause shoulder pain that travels down the outside of the arm (called Pancoast’s Syndrome) or paralysis of the vocal cords leading to hoarseness. Invasion of the esophagus may lead to difficulty swallowing (dysphagia). If a large airway is obstructed, collapse of a portion of the lung may occur and cause infections (abscesses, pneumonia) in the obstructed area

It can get hard to breathe ,cough, shortness of breath, loss of appetite, weight loss, chest pain, coughing up blood and recurrent bronchitis ,pneumonia, very hard to walk a tiny distances.Id check with a doctor.

How did you get well from lung cancer without chemotherapy and radiation

How did you get well from lung cancer without chemotherapy and radiation?

Cancer - 3 Answers

1 :
If you are diagnosed with lung cancer through a MRI, chest x-ray, a qualified Physician, and a biopsy and were told that Chemo was your best chance of surviving....I would listen to the Doctor.
2 :
Have you been told you cannot have chemotherapy or radiotherapy because of risks? If not I hope you will have the chemotherapy. It is most unpleasant but most necessary.
3 :
Most lung cancers that can be cured are cured with surgery - resection of the primary tumor mass if that can be accomplished. This may cure some people with non-small cell lung cancers. If this is a small cell lung cancer, chemotherapy and radiation is the only chance. If anyone with a lung cancer diagnosis is cured without surgery, chemotherapy and/or radiation - - the diagnosis of lung cancer must have been wrong.
