difficulties in diagnosing lung cancer

difficulties in diagnosing lung cancer ?

a cough or breathlessness isn't really very indicative for lung cancer. lung cancer signs and symptoms include cough of course, but also cough with bloody sputum (coughing up bloody stuff), significant weight loss (15-30lbs in a few weeks to couple months), pain in the chest or back. having a cough or being out of breath could be a bunch of things... infection (cold, pneumonia, etc), COPD, emphysema, any number of things. also, early stage lung cancers are usually asymptomatic (which means people don't have any symptoms). I hope that helps...

What are the chances of getting lung cancer (or any oher cancer) after smoking for three years

What are the chances of getting lung cancer (or any oher cancer) after smoking for three years?
I recently quit. I was smoking 10-15 a day (hand rolled Golden Virginia tobacco).

There are people who smoke their entire adult lives and don't get lung cancer. It's not possible to say what your chances are, based on the three years of smoking. There are other factors that can't be predicted.
2 :
Four people in my family have been smoking for over half of their life, it's not that big of a chance for 3 years. Then again, it varies on factors like what kind of cigarettes they were (lights, regular, 100s, etc), what brand they were, how many packs a day you smoked, etc.
3 :
More than if You never smoked. However, if You have quit, the chance of You getting cancer from it gets slimmer every day.
4 :
personally i think there is a good chance u will. U have been smoking for three years u have already damaged ur lungs ask ur doctor if there is anyway u could pervent getting lung cancer or hold it off for a while
5 :
3 years is after all not a lifetime...so although it did leave a small mark on you, the chances of lung cancer should have increased less than 10% It also depends on how much you were smoking during those years. If it was under 10 cigarettes per day, you should be good. Congrads for quitting!!!
6 :
mamy it depends

How does lung cancer cause a person to cough? And what does the cough associated with lung cancer sound like

How does lung cancer cause a person to cough? And what does the cough associated with lung cancer sound like?

I don't think there is a solid connection there, too many variables to consider in my opinion.
2 :
my dad died with lung cancer and did not have a cough, my husband has secondries in the lung and does have a cough. If you have any worries you should speak to a doctor
3 :
Cancer in the lungs is foreign matter to the body. Your lungs are lined with cilia. These are hairlike projections that move foreign matter out of your lungs. My sister-in-law had a bad cough with hers. It's more likely the tumors at first. The lungs are trying to rid itself of the tumors and that's the only way it knows how to do it. As it progresses, the patient can become filled with mucous and this annoys the cilia, which in turn causes the patient to cough up the mucous. that is the job of the cilia. Hope that helps. This is a general description of why we cough,
4 :
one of the most significant symptoms of lung cancer is coughing up blood or haemoptysis. This can sometimes occur as an early warning sign of a cancer which may still be curable. Any person who coughs up blood should see their GP for advice urgently as lung cancer must be considered, particularly if the person is a smoker over the age of 40. My dad was age 73 and had a cough that lasted for over 2 weeks and my mum nagged him to see the doctor, 4 days later he was having part of his lung removed and recovered, 3 years later he died of bowel cancer. The cough was not too bad, just the typical smokers cough like the type you get when you have a bad cold.
5 :
When dealing with lung cancer it depends on where the tumor is located. Tumors at the base do not cause as much coughing as those located at the top or bronchial tree. With secretions at the top, it acts more as an irritation that patients try to cough out.Fluid at the base has farther to travel also & often just settle in the lungs. The cough can be harsh sounding but again it depends on how well the person can bring up fluid. There can often be blood present from both irritation by coughing or from the tumor itself. The cough can change it type & frequency over the stage of the cancer as it progresses, and often can stop when the patient deteriorates & can no longer expel the irritating fluid.
6 :
As you can see, there are many different answers to you question as there are many types of cancer. I had a tumor and half a lung removed and never developed a cough.
7 :
My mother did not have any coughing when she found out that she had 4th stage small cell lung cancer. The tumor was the size of a golf ball in her lung. It was located at the top part of the lung. I will be calling my health insurance and telling them about mom, and asking them if they allow chest x-rays every year. She had an x-ray in 2005 just before she moved her in October. She had an x-ray in Feb. 09, and passed away June 09. Less than 4 years, she was taken from us from cancer. My doctor said to me if I have any coughing to come in. But my mother never had any coughing. So I want the x-rays every year. Even tho I have never been a smoker, I grew up with her smoking, so it scares me.

He's pulling your leg. Doubtful veracity. If he has a primary lung cancer as a teenager or early twenties person, it would be more rare than lightning striking him. How old is he? Telling us the age is extremely important here.
2 :
You can do anything with lung cancer as long as you feel up to it. Why not?
3 :
Have him tested, then you have your answer. But I dont see why not.. maybe it's just a small patch and not this full blown ball of cancer. Or like the other guy said, maybe he's pulling your leg or trying to get a pitty session. Or maybe he does and just isnt worried about what other people think. Or maybe he was trying to push you off and for you to leave him alone. Every circumstance in life differs from one to the other and from one person to the next. Not every person with lung cancer has the same experience. Cmon man, ask his parents, his teachers, councelers, anyone really. If he's saying such things and it's false.. it should be ended. If it's true.. good for him. (wow, I mean "good for him" on still playing and keeping active, some would argue that's the best medicine, atleast mentally) I would like to know.. update us all! If he's messin with you, dont beat em' up. lol
4 :
If he is young enough to have football practice he doesn’t have lung cancer. There is no maybe about it.

which of the following has the greatest promise as a lung cancer chemotherapy agent? A drug that?
A. causes cells to devide at a right angle from their usual orientation. B.interferes with cellular meiosis. C. prevents sister chromatids from separating at anaphase. D. prevents tetrad formation E. prevents crossing over.
Biology - 1 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Tetrads only form during meiosis, so the previous responder is wrong. The only answer that would possibly make sense is C. If the sister chromatids don't separate, then the cell cannot divide. Both centrosomes will pull on the centromere, but it won't move. One side may break its hold on the centromere, but then one new cell would have no DNA and would die, and the other would have too much DNA and would die.

If you have lung cancer, and it spreads to your neck causing a lump there, are you pretty much a finished man

If you have lung cancer, and it spreads to your neck causing a lump there, are you pretty much a finished man?
Does that mean "it's all she wrote", "no possible cure", and "good riddence to you"?

to be honest the lung cancer pretty much does for most people secondaries are just a sign that the cancer has spread and patients often do not live too long when this happens i had a friend with lung cancer - he had radical surgery and his lung was removed.....a few years later he developed brain cancer and died soon after if his lung had not been removed he would not have lived for as long as he did ...he had this surgery in singapore as they would not do it in germany or holland where he lived
2 :
lung cancer is a pretty bad one to begin with. but chances are very very slim for any more possible treatments if they cancer is already starting to spread to other areas of the body.
3 :
It depends a lot on the condition of the patient. If in fairly good shape physically, the oncologist may order more chemo. I know a lady with lung cancer with mets to the neck, they put her on Tarceva and she is doing well with the tumors in her neck shrinking. There is no possible cure for lung cancer to begin with.. all we can do is hope for a longer survival time.
4 :
Lung cancer is really aggressive and if it has already started spreading, it's not a good thing. Doctors will tell you all you can do is chemo/radiation, but there are alternative natural treatments out there as well. Look up clinical trials in your area, alternative therapies, etc.
5 :
yes
6 :
Every patient is different and nothing is ever written in stone. Metastatic cancer grows at different rates for different people and likewise responds differently to treatment across patients. Your oncologist is the best person to discuss this with. Try to keep a positive outlook and find out what your options are.

I had surgery to remove my lung cancer I did have it in my lyumps nodes. do I still need further treatment

I had surgery to remove my lung cancer I did have it in my lyumps nodes. do I still need further treatment?
what is the percentage that the cancer will come back without any other treatment?

only your oncologist can answer your questions competently.
2 :
We don't know without further information on your case. Talk to the person who has specialized in your treatment
3 :
I know of some people that have had lung surgery and opted for no further treatment and are doing fine. Others not so lucky.. there may be cancer cells still in the body that can't be detected at an early stage, so chemo is often recommended to reduce that risk.
4 :
It depends on the kind of cancer you have and the stage of the disease. However, is this really a risk you want to take? If the cancer was found in your lymph nodes (assuming they are regional nodes) the cancer has already began to spread. Once those cancer cells are in the lymph nodes it’s like being on a subway to an unknown destination. This much we do know. What we don’t know is if there are any cancer cells in one or more lymph nodes that were not removed or if any of them have already left the station and are circulating around in your body looking for a place to start a new tumor. We have no way to determine this. Chemo is used to kill these cells before they start a new home – once that happens your chances of surviving drops dramatically. It’s possible every cancer cell was removed during your surgery and you will be just fine without further treatment. The problem is there is no way of knowing for sure – not until if or when another tumor is found. You’re the only one who can decide what is best for you. I’m sure your oncologist has gone over all the risks with you. If you are still unsure get another opinion. Best wishes.
