As I'm sure you've been told, stage 4 is very serious. Talk to your hospitals social worker, suggest experimental alternatives with her doctor. I wish you the best and your grandmother also.
2 :
I think at stage 4 there is not much hope but just keep her comfortable and happy.

Help grandma do pranayam, to fight lung cancer.Do it gently and very gradually increase the timing. Both of you can do it together. If you(grandma) can build up the kapalbhati timing to 20 then there is a lot of hope, as she will get better and better. You will feel so much better that you are doing something. Cancer hates oxygen and cannot live in a high-oxygen environment. If you want to supplement the medical treatment you receive(or not receive) with some alternative therapy then this is for you. You need to help your body to build up your immune system. The breathing exercises - pranayam is a holistic approach creating extra oxygen supply in the body and will slowly help with the health problem.Do the pranayam to see the benefits.Build up your timing slowly and after four weeks at the suggested maximum duration you will start to notice benefits gradually. The small print: Keep doing pranayam after you are better for minimum 30 minutes a day for rest of life to maintain health. People who have been treated successfully, should do pranayam as well, as there is a chance of recurrence. Monitor your conditions/results regularly and it will help you and others observe the progress.. The pranayam techniques: Bhastrika - Take a long deep breath into the lungs(chest not tummy) via the nose and then completely breathe out through the nose.Duration upto 5 minutes. Kapalbhati -(Do it before eating) Push air forcefully out through the nose about once per second. Stomach will itself go in(contract in). The breathing in(through the nose) will happen automatically. Establish a rhythm and do for upto 30 minutes twice a day.(Max 60 min/day) Not for pregnant women. Seriously ill people do it gently. Anulom Vilom - Deep Breath-in through left nostril keeping right nostril closed then - Breath-out through right nostril keeping left nostril closed then -Deep Breath-in through right nostril keeping left nostril closed then - Breath-out through left nostril keeping right nostril closed and repeat this cycle for upto 30 minutes twice a day(maximum 60 min/day). Bhramri Pranayam -Close eyes. Close ears with thumb, index finger on forehead, and rest three fingers on base of nose touching eyes. Breathe in through nose. And now breathe out through nose while humming like a bee. Duration : 5 to 10 times Only by doing you will benefit and will feel good that you can do something to help the body.Copy and print this to improve your technique and stay focused. This is simplified pranayam for everyone and you do not have to go to classes to learn. This is for life, unlike short term classes where you do it in the class then stop when classes are over.

How to prevent people living in houses with asbestos roofs to get lung cancer

How to prevent people living in houses with asbestos roofs to get lung cancer?

It depends on the kind of asbestos. Some kinds the risk is so low that it is worse to remove it, because of the added risk of stirring it up. I'm assuming you mean mesothelioma, which afflicts about 2-3,000 new people each year in the US (out of all third of a billion of us!), so the actual risk is very, very low. It also tends to be older folks. Of course, none of that helps if it's you, but you should keep the risk in perspective, and remember to wear a seatbelt and not smoke before you worry about spending mega-bucks removing asbestos or buying a new home to get away from it. Here's some info on prevention:

What are the chances I'll be getting lung cancer

What are the chances I'll be getting lung cancer?
So I've been smoking for around 2 years now but it's never been a pack a day, it's more like one everyday and a pack on the weekend. I have stopped for 4 months, started then stopped for 2 months. I've started again with 2 a day and around a pack every weekend. I've started to get paranoid of getting cancer so what are my chances? I'm 18 male

Basically, if you keep smoking for the rest of your life you may or may not get cancer. Cancer isn't this thing that is predetermined. Cancer is a spontaneous, random mutation of cells. It can happen any time. If you quit smoking today, you may get cancer tomorrow. I don't smoke. I could get cancer tomorrow. But, there is a good chance that smoking INCREASES your chances of getting some type of cancer. Doesn't mean you will get it, but there is a high probability that you will. Smoking also increases heart disease, decreases lung function, and may decrease brain function. I would stop.
2 :
Answer from pamplemo1 is enough to answer your question. To add one more point, many cancers run in the families and the immediate relatives, often have an increased risk of cancers. From your background information, you are not a heavy smoker. If possible, STOP smoking. Smoking can also cause some immediate bad effects, such as bad breath, yellowish teeth & encounter many restriction from the government, such as cannot smoke at certain areas, expensive cigarette & not attracted to women (in my country).
3 :
Smoking definitely established causative factor for not only lung cancer but for many other cancer, but remember that is not the only cause. Yes it really increases chances to get lung cancer but it is not possible to predict how much. Many other causative risk factors have to be always taken in to consideration. Only thing is sure that if you continue to smoke and frequency is bound to increase, you will be in high risk group than general population of your age and sex in there life time. So be the Doctor of yourself and stop smoking. No one is going to stop you in quitting smoking.

2 :
Non-small cell lung cancer is a disease in which malignant (cancer) cells form in the tissues of the lung. The lungs are a pair of cone-shaped breathing organs in the chest. The lungs bring oxygen into the body as you breathe in. They release carbon dioxide, a waste product of the body’s cells, as you breathe out. Each lung has sections called lobes. The left lung has two lobes. The right lung is slightly larger and has three lobes. Two tubes called bronchi lead from the trachea (windpipe) to the right and left lungs. The bronchi are sometimes also involved in lung cancer. Tiny air sacs called alveoli and small tubes called bronchioles make up the inside of the lungs. There are several types of non-small cell lung cancer. Each type of non-small cell lung cancer has different kinds of cancer cells. The cancer cells of each type grow and spread in different ways. The types of non-small cell lung cancer are named for the kinds of cells found in the cancer and how the cells look under a microscope: * Squamous cell carcinoma: Cancer that begins in squamous cells, which are thin, flat cells that look like fish scales. This is also called epidermoid carcinoma. * Large cell carcinoma: Cancer that may begin in several types of large cells. * Adenocarcinoma: Cancer that begins in the cells that line the alveoli and make substances such as mucus.

How does Lung Cancer Start With Cigarettes

How does Lung Cancer Start With Cigarettes?
Is it the tar that stays on your lungs and makes it more cancerish or what?

im not sure but i think ur on the right track, and also, the fact that u breathe in when smoking is roasting ur lungs like a bbq.
2 :
I know/have heard of many people who never smoked a cigarette in their lives and got lung cancer and died. I mean, look at Dana Reeves. She never smoked. My aunt never smoked and died from it.
3 :
Tar is the chemicals found in cigarette smoke. You would be very surprised to find out what chemicals are in cigarette smoke. There are over 2000 including formaldehyde, hydrogen cyanide and pesitcides. There are over 200 known carcinogens in cigarette smoke. Carcinogens are chemicals that cause cancer. They can change the genetic make up of lung cells causing some to grow abnormally and become cancerous.
4 :
uh.... is it nicotine?
5 :
SOME PEOPLE GET LUNG CANCER 'LIKE MY NEIGHBORS WIFE AND SHE HAS NEVER SMOKED A DAY IN HER LIFE...THE ONES THAT DO SMOKE I'D SAY THAT THE TAR STARTS CLOGGING ALL THE BREATHING TUBES AND PROBLEY TUMERS START BREEDING ,,,ALL I REALLY KNOW IS THAT LUNG AND ALL CANCERS ARE THE SCUM OF THE EARTH AND NO LIVING BEINGS SHOULD HAVE TO GO THRU THAT MADNESS,,,
6 :
Lung cancer starts with cigarettes because cigarettes contain carcinogens. Although there are people who get lung cancer and were non-smokers, there is plenty of evidence to suggest that these people were exposed to second hand smoke, asbestos or other carcinogens.
7 :
Yes, anything that stays in the lungs and can irritate them. Smokers should Try Vitamin C therapy. A few years ago a cancer researcher came out with a paper saying that the best cancer and infection fighter as yet found was Interferon, but, at the time, it cost $15,000 a gram. The good part was that Interferon was a product of the natural breakdown of Vitamin C in your system. Shortly after that paper came out the FDA tried to make Vit C by prescription only. Guess why? The FDA says that the RDA for Vit C is 64 mg a day, just enough to prevent scurvy. Linus Pauling, who got a Nobel Prize for his work with Vit C and a second Nobel Prize for organic chemistry, said 1000 mg a day as a minimum and 2000 mg a day if you are sick. On a personal note, I was sick twice a year, for 2 weeks at a time, for 20 years, and was flat on my back for at least a week each time. To this day the doctors have no idea what the problem was. After I gave up on the doctors I tried Vit C. I took enough to keep from being sick and just below too much to get diarrhea. It followed a bell curve over 2 weeks with a peak at 40,000 mg a day – about 300,000 over the 2 weeks. I was not sick for those 2 weeks and after a couple of years of that I have not been sick since. I did not dissolve my kidneys, as some doctors said would happen. I did not get any calcium build up or stones and did not dissolve my cojones or solidify my joints. Try it, but drink a lot of water – Vit C is a natural diuretic.
8 :
I really think a big part is the chemicals in the cigs. If you knew what was in there, you wouldnt touch a cig within 10 miles

Yes marijuana does increase the risk of lung cancer. It's not about opinion, it's about facts.
2 :
noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo it makes you a lot smarter and its healthy and organic.
3 :
I supposed if you smoke pot everyday it would increase... But in general smoking pot once in a while would not increase your risk, at least not by anything even worrying about.
4 :
I agree with Rebekkah Lynn because if it is smoked and inhaled, then it is a cancer risk.
5 :
it depends how you smoke it, it is when you smoke from a joint, when smoking from a bong, the risks are ALOT lower, and from a vaporizor, its totally risk free cuz its not smoke, its water vapor made of pure THC:) yummy:D
6 :
In clinical studies that will be made known once marijuana in commercially legal, marijuana in an extremely cleansing herb for the lungs. It's shown that tobacco smokers are far less likely to develop cancer if they are smoking marijuana in conjunction, and their life span expectancy increases dramatically. A non-smoker of marijuana is not at risk of lung cancer any more than a user. Unfortunately, there is a small tar intake when smoking that health nuts like to watch out for-- bottom line, get a vaporizer. The marijuana is heated until just before combustion, and natural vapors are released. You can get the same effect with any sized hookah pipe, when used properly with a coal. No smoke, no tar, no risk.

How many non-smokers die each year from lung cancer

How many non-smokers die each year from lung cancer?
Does anyone know of an unbiased website out there where I can find this statistic?
Cancer - 5 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
I do not. But I know several people do die from lung cancer who never smoked
2 :
It is estimated that 10 - 15 per cent of lung cancer occurs to people who have never smoked and the risk is increased among women. A recent statistics from US(medicinenet.com), has shown that each year 17,000 cases(non-smokers) have been diagnosed of having lung cancer. However, I could not find statistics worldwide. There are few reasons have been attributed to this such as passive smoking, exposure to asbestos, uranium compounds, heavy metals, increased oestrogen levels and finally genetic predisposition. Hope, this helps.
3 :
I don't know but my Dad did, they said it was caused by passive smoking
4 :
The AMA may tell you 90% of lung cancer patients are smokers. I have lung cancer and I have never smoked in my life. According to my doctors, only about 10% of their lung cancer patients are smokers.
5 :
about 17,000
