Lung cancer outcome and surgery risks

Lung cancer outcome and surgery risks?
I have a relative who currently has one lung (the other was removed years ago), and recently found out they have lung cancer. A tumor was found in the upper right lobe and one lymph node is involved. Doctors will be doing surgery to remove what they can etc. I am wondering what are the risks of cancer in that area, what is the risks of having one lung, and how long can a person live in this condition. My relative never smoked nor was around anyone who did.

The body is an amazing machine, if you will. It can tolerate the removal of an organ the one left will compensate for the one lost. The choice is one your relative will have to weigh. What will be the outcome of not having the surgery and what will happen if he/she does? Always get another opinion unless this Dr has treated them before and knows the patient well. No one can know how long anyone will live with or without intervention. I know one of my sister-in-laws lived a long time with only one lung. She was a smoker before the lung was removed and never smoked after that. So, it's hard to say. I do wish your relative the best. God bless
