Stage III-B Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer has a five year survival rate of approximately 10% according to the American Cancer Society. http://www.cancer.org/docroot/CRI/content/CRI_2_4_3x_How_Is_Non-Small_Cell_Lung_Cancer_Staged.asp?sitearea= The numbers are based on people diagnosed between 1998 and 2001, and the numbers may have improved somewhat since then. But the prognosis is generally fairly bleak for this stage of cancer. Unfortunately not good. When my mom told me she had lung cancer, stage 4 I think, I asked her what the doctor said about prognosis. She never told me, and said doctors don't talk about that, they focus on curing you. When I read about it, it said most patients don't last past 5 years, and I couldn't believe that, especially since there were times where the tumor was nearly gone and she was doing good for awhile. The chemo, radiation helped her for a little while, the drugs did nothing, and she passed away 2 1/2 years after she was diagnosed.
