Stage IV is serious, as there is no Stage V. You will need to google lung cancer and get some information about how they diagnose. What sort of information will you need, alternative or western medicine. I know about alternative medicine only.

Stage IV means the cancer has spread to at least one distant site and it is not curable. Treatment at this point is to slow the cancer and decrease their symptoms as much as possible.

Boston, Stage 4 means it's almost over, Sorry. Nobody can say when, has the doctor said any thing about how much time she has left? At stage 4 he should be able to say 3-6 months. He should so Hospice can be called into the house they are experts on taking home the people in their last stages and keep them as comfortable as possible with pain drugs and pain managment. I'll say a prayer for your friend tonight. GOD Bless. Rita V

It means it spread. My uncle had stage IV kidney cancer that spread to his spine, and lungs. The tumors fractured his spine, he got that fixed and went through chemo, and radiation. He is in a lot of pain and in a nursing home because he is paralyzed from the tumor breaking his spine. But his oncologist says he has about 5 years left. The doctor told him that in April/May 2010. He was diagnosed May 2009. Hope things work out for your friend.

For those who subscribe to the medical school textbooks, it means there's nothing more to do. For those who refuse to give up, it means as long as the patient still has the presence of mind and the ability to swallow, there is a chance that it can be cured. Without going into a long, boring, complicated explanation here, I'll give you a few links that you should check out - they can be quite beneficial for what you're seeking. I hope the best for you and your friend. Currently, my sister-in-law has perhaps a month to live, but she's incoherent and unable to swallow, so the information offered for you here will do her no good, unfortunately. I hope you'll be able to make good use of it.
