difficulties in diagnosing lung cancer ?
when diagnosing lung cancer what are the difficulties when making a diagnosis from the signs and symptoms e.g. coughing regularly, change in existing cought, out of breath tiredness etc. are there any other disorders with similar signs and symptoms which could be confused with?

a cough or breathlessness isn't really very indicative for lung cancer. lung cancer signs and symptoms include cough of course, but also cough with bloody sputum (coughing up bloody stuff), significant weight loss (15-30lbs in a few weeks to couple months), pain in the chest or back. having a cough or being out of breath could be a bunch of things... infection (cold, pneumonia, etc), COPD, emphysema, any number of things. also, early stage lung cancers are usually asymptomatic (which means people don't have any symptoms).
